hmmm it will be interesting to see how Arizona feels about him competing in the JO's this summer. I can think of some college basketball programs that would be bringing pressure to bare on him to not chance getting hurt.

I asked Cal BB center Rod Benson if he was coming back for more VB. He said that his volleyball career was over. He was 6'10" and could have been an elite player at the D-I level if he played full-time. His main problem was coming in and getting his timing down right. When he did manage to get his timing down, it was absolutely sick what a 6'10" leftside can do.

How did we go from budinger to Benson? anyway, Rod could have been good. could haves don't count. He rarely made it to practice, was scholarship ed and was not a left side hitter. He had no ball control what so ever. He also said (Quoted in the newspaper) that volleyball was slow and boaring. I think he made the right choice. I look forward to him making an impact in the PAC 10n this year. Don't get me wrong, hes a great kid. good for Cal.

As for the comments, I've heard all sorts of things. One set of Stanford men's BB quotes included a question about who they'd want to play them in a movie. The very white Casey Jacobsen said Denzel Washington. One of the 7' Collins twins said Gary Coleman. Perhaps is was slow and boring to Rod, but when I saw him on the court, I saw a guy who was having fun out there. I've never heard Rod Benson say anything about volleyball being boring. I see him watching VB - he seems to like it enough to watch. He was mostly a middle, although I think he could have been a decent back-row player with more reps. However - he wasn't super polished, but that 6'10" frame can make up for lack of playing time rather quickly. www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/sports/colleges/cal/11401547.htmI recall there were some fine club VB players at Arizona who were scholarship BB players. Jud Buechler comes to mind. I read that he even played a little pro beach VB when he was out of the NBA and before he returned. Budinger could ask Lute if he could play on the Arizona club VB team.
