Hello all, Back from Hawaii !!! The games were all great ( except for game 4 last night ) The local paper said it best , they (Pepperdine ) looked exhausted. No excuses from anyone though. On Wednesday Pepperdine played their game and on Friday Hawaii seemed to be wanting the win more. One thing I took away from the games was that Costas Theocharidis has very little class on the court ( I see why he isn't team captain ). During the match he would make gestures after good hits and one ( uncalled for pelvic thrust ) showed me how classless he is. If this is how he always is , then Wilton should be ashamed to allow this to happen. These were really well played matches both nights and it really pisses me off that the biggest thing I remember is someones uncalled for antics on the court . During the match I let the Hawaii team know how I felt and I apologize for lowering myself to their standards. i don't think costas' celebration was directed at you. i'm sure you remember a time when he pointed after he killed. you must've thought he was pointing at you, but he was really pointing at the camera. i don't think it's to agravate pepperdine fans.

Actually, Wilton has been allowing his players to act classless in the past few years. I'm a UH fan, so I'm not happy to see it. 5-6 years ago Wilton wouldn't have let his players get away with taunting and throwing tantrums. Now he turns a blind eye to it. Maybe he figures it helps pump up the team.

Maybe he figures it helps pump up the team. I dont think anything Costas did was classless. It just seems like celebration. Walker from Pepperdine annoyed me with the way he celebrated. He was jumping up and down and screaming after blocking a player. But if someone from Hawaii did that, I wouldn't care. So while it was annoying, I wont criticize it since the only reason it annoys me is that it comes from another team. So from that perspective, each person has to honestly ask themself whether or not it was annoying because it was classless or because it came from an opposing team. I think Wilton is just letting it go because he actually started it. He made comments about Costas during his freshman year, calling him "poker faced". Costas did not play with visible fire or emotion but come out very business like. Wilton said he wanted Costas to play with more fire and that's exactly what Costas is doing. So, I dont think Costas can be blamed as opposed to Wilton.

Costas is just a bid doofus. He was having fun. He said it in his post match talk, and it makes sense to me. This years team, IMO, has followed in that vein. They seem to do all kinds of weird junk on their side of the net, but none of it seems directed to the other team.
OTOH, I haven't liked Wilton letting players get away with some bad behavior in the past. He needs to realize that as the only major college here, UH players are a reflection of Hawaii. This is just an example of that.

Yeah, in the post game interview he said he hoped he didn't offend anyone (and I promise, he didn't sound sarcastic). I think he was just letting out all the fustration of Wednesday night's game. He was just really, really happy.

I think Hawaii got lucky last night. So what we lost one match, BIG DEAL. Looks like Hawaii used up its one win match against us a year already. See you in Malibu........if you make it. Yes, Hawaii got lucky to face a team that cannot play another top team two tonights in three days and providing the same results as the night before. Pepperdine looked tired the second match. And to answer the question who is better Costas or Winters? The answer is Costas, in fact, the last match against Pepperdine, he won a complete game by himself and as for Winter, he was pretty much MIA that night. As far as during the two match series on who is the better over all player between Costas and Winters, I say Costas, mainly because he is going up against Pepperdine's big block whereas Winters wasn't.

Okay, okay.... so Costas made a few gestures... the fact that he sincerely apologized seals the deal... leave it alone!
We've all said before that we'd like to see some emotion on the court... as long as it doesn't get into the realm of distasteful antics... as much as someone might find Walker's pumping fists (last year) "annoying"... he was just celebrating. Normally Costas is very annimated in his celebration, but I never thought of his as rude (perhaps I was ignoring him because I was so awe-struck by Dejan's ridiculousness).
I'm happy with Costas' apology about the other night... Hawaii won... they came out and played well against a very tired-looking (and acting) Pepperdine... they should be happy. Thanks for being sorry Costas... don't let it happen again! This will be an excellent re-match, come MPSF tournament time and/or Final Four (yup, I'll call it).
Maybe some Pepperdine guys want to take notice of the emotion... although Rooney was getting pretty fired up (glad to see it!).
GO WAVES!

Pepp will be in the National Final. They are a very steady team. I think without ever saying it, Hawaii fans fear their team doesn't go in the toilet like they did against Pepp. If that happens they won't be there. Too bad because they have a good team.
