Costas Theocharidis, a 6-3 senior outside hitter for second-ranked University of Hawai’i (11-5, 7-5 MPSF), has been selected the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I/II Men's National Player of the Week after leading the Warriors to a split with top-ranked Pepperdine. Hawai’i handed the Waves their first MPSF loss of the season and snapped a 12-match win streak. Theocharidis had a match-high 29 kills on a .426 attack percentage (29-6-54) in the series finale. He posted a double-double performance in the series opener, with a match-high 25 kills and 10 digs. Theocharidis averaged 6.75 kills, 2.13 digs and 1.00 blocks per game on the week. The three-time AVCA first-team All-American now needs just 28 more kills to become the school’s first 2,000 kill performer. www.avca.org/

i know that there have been three women v-ball players who have been 4 time first-team all americans (walsh, tom and someone else-who?)
how many men have done that? anyone know? and how many current seniors have a shot of also being 4-time first-teamers?

The word on the street is that its never been done... could be a quick 3 on the board for the records this year.
Now, the argument will likely arise, who's the best of these 3?
Oh, and how bout Bev Oden for that 3rd 1st Team, 4-time, All American.

2,000 kills? Didn't Brent Hilliard(sp?) have something really obscene like 3,000 kills? After leading Hawaii in kills in practically every match since he stepped onto the team, I would think he would be a little bit closer than 2/3 of the way there.

Congratulations to Costas Theocharidis for winning player of the week.
As for the 4-time all-american, are you guys talking about 4-time first team all-american or just 4-time all-american. And if you are, are Toppel and Keenan 3-time first all-americans right now?
Because I'm not sure, but on an earlier thread about this didn't they say that Costas was the only one with a chance of being a 4-time first team all-american? Anyone that knows info on this please post.
Mahalo.

Only Costas Theocharidis is running for the 4-time 1st team All-American honor, having earned 1st team honors in 2000, 2001 & 2002. Both Keenan and Toppel earned 2nd team honor on 2000 and 2001. They both earned 1st team honor only on 2002. www.avca.org/collegiate/Menawards/MenAAalltime.pdf

Four men's players have been named AVCA All-America all four years. The list includes Penn State's Ivan Contreras, Stanford's Matt Fuerbringer, UCLA's Brandon Taliaferro and UCLA's Adam Naeve. Hawaii's Costas Theocharidis has a chance to become the first four-time AVCA All-America First-Team selection. Curt Toppel and Brad Keenan also can become four-time AVCA All-Americans this year, but not all four years were first-team selections. The full list of AVCA All-Americans can be downloaded from the AVCA web site at www.avca.org/collegiate/MenAwards/MenAAalltime.pdf

okay to ease the confusion i see happening:
hawaii's costas theocharidis has a chance at being the first male volleyball player to be named a FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN all FOUR years.
penn state's ivan contreras, stanford's matt fuerbringer, ucla's brandon taliaferro and adam naeve have all been named ALL-AMERICANS all FOUR years, but were not FIRST-TEAMERS all four years.
stanford's curt toppel and pepperdine's brad keenan will also be FOUR year ALL-AMERICANS, if named this year.
stanford's kerri walsh, bev oden and logan tom are the only female volleyball players to be named FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN, for FOUR years.
am i right? correct me if i'm wrong.
