A preseason look at the top boys' volleyball teams in the Southland:
1. LOYOLA
Has contingent of national-class players, but will the Cubs stumble again on way to title?
2. MIRA COSTA
Southland's volleyball hub should be just fine despite rebuilding effort.
3. ESPERANZA, SS-DIV. I
Defending Division I champion finds a crowded field this season.
4. SAN CLEMENTE, SS-DIV. I
Eight returning players provide experience, ball control and defense.
5. ROYAL, SS-DIV. I
Strong program is always solid, even during a rebuilding season such as this year.
6. WOODBRIDGE, SS-DIV. I
This sleeper has youthful club players with opportunities to shine.
7. SANTA YNEZ, SS-DIV. II
Has won seven section titles in eight years and may be ranked too low.
8. NEWPORT HARBOR, SS-DIV. I
Perennial contender returns to Division I but is missing two starters because of knee injuries.
9. MARINA, SS-DIV. I
With new coach, Vikings look to rebuild around state's top player, UCLA-bound Steve Klosterman.
10. CHATSWORTH, CS-DIV. I
Defending City champion is 34-10 in last three years but has five starting spots to fill. TEXT
