It's been a crazy season with many upsets and it will be almost impossible to guess what the bracket will look like. But it wouldn't be volleytalk if we would not try ;D Current conference Standings: Pac-10: 4 or 5 seeds? Stanford Washington UCLA Cal Washington State Big-10: 4 seeds PSU Illinois Minnesota Michigan Big 12: 3 seeds Texas ISU Nebraska SEC: 2 seeds? More? Kentucky Florida LSU Tennessee Not Pac-10/Big10/Big12/SEC: 2 - 3 seeds? Hawaii FSU RPI: 1 Texas 2 Florida St. 3 Penn St. 4 Illinois 5 Minnesota 6 Michigan 7 Washington 8 Stanford 9 California 10 Iowa St. 11 Florida 12 Nebraska 13 UCLA 14 LSU 15 Notre Dame 16 Tennessee --------------------- 17 Arizona 18 Colorado St. 19 FIU 20 Oregon 21 Kentucky 22 Hawaii 23 Michigan St. 24 Southern California 25 Baylor Please make your guess

My guess...
1. Penn St 2. Texas 3. Washington 4. Illinois 5. Hawaii 6. Oregon 7. Minnesota 8. Iowa State 9. Nebraska 10. FSU 11. Michigan 12. Kentucky 13. Notre Dame 14. Florida 15. Stanford 16. Cal
I'd say LSU is the last team off the list, should any of the above slip up. Also, given the "Dieter scenario" it wouldn't shock me to see Minnesota slip at some point.

I put this together on 10/23, but I don't see many changes at this point, so here's my stab at the teams that get in. I have no interest in picking the seeded top 16 teams. Much more fun to try to pick the top 64 teams. Conference | low bid cnt | high bid cnt | Teams | America East | 1 | 1 | | Atlantic 10 | 1 | 1 | | Atlantic Coast | 2 | 3 | Florida State, North Carolina, Duke? | Atlantic Sun | 1 | 1 | | Big 12 | 5 | 6 | Texas, Nebraska, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Baylor, another? | Big East | 1 | 4 | Notre Dame, Cinci?, Pitt?, Louisville? | Big Sky | 1 | 1 | | Big South | 1 | 1 | | Big Ten | 4 | 6 | Penn State, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin? Ohio state? | Big West | 2 | 4 | UC irvine, Long Beach, UCSB, UC Davis??, Pacific?? | Colonial Athletic Association | 1 | 1 | | Conference USA | 1 | 1 | | Great West | 0 | 0 | | Horizon League | 1 | 1 | | Ivy League | 1 | 1 | | Metro Atlantic Athletic | 1 | 1 | | Mid-American | 1 | 1 | | Mid-Eastern Athletic | 1 | 1 | | Missouri Valley | 1 | 3 | Northern Iowa, Wichita State?, Missouri State? | Mountain West | 2 | 3 | Colorado State, Utah, TCU? | Northeast | 1 | 1 | | Ohio Valley | 1 | 1 | | Pac-10 | 7 | 8 | Stanford, Washington, UCLA, Washington State, Arizona, California, USC | Patriot | 1 | 1 | | Southeastern | 4 | 5 | Kentucky, LSU, Florida, Tennessee | Southern | 1 | 1 | | Southland | 1 | 1 | | Southwestern Athletic | 1 | 1 | | Sun Belt | 1 | 1 | | The Summit League | 1 | 1 | | West Coast | 3 | 5 | San Diego, Saint Marys, Pepperdine, San Fran?, Gonzaga? | Western Athletic | 1 | 2 | Hawaii, New Mexico State? | | 52 | 69 | |

I didn't have to go far down your list to disagree. The A-10 will get 2 entries. Dayton and St Louis, currently ranked #24 and #26, both with RPIs above 35.

In the past usually the seeds of teams in the same conference reflected their conference finish. I wonder if that is something they will follow through if Stanford or UCLA win the Pac-10. Then conference performance says one thing, overall record tells another story. And who would have thought before this season that we might be talking about Illinois as a regional top seed.

Dayton and St. Louis are virtually a lock to get in, and I wouldn't be surprised if CUSA got a second team. I'd be stunned if the Sun Belt only got one team. I don't know who the 2nd or 3rd teams would be but this conference is not just the FIU show.

The way things have been going, we may have 8 Pac-10 teams invited. Currently all teams are above .500. Oregon State and Arizona State are losing a lot in conference, but the others are not (4-5 or better) and if their records for the second half match the first half we'll have 8 teams with .500 or better overall records. Those same 8 teams are ranked #30 or better in both Pablo and RKPI. Basically, this year any Pac-10 team that ends up over .500 looks like it should get invited. And yes IB, you left out Washington State. I think I know what changed since 10/23.

During Wednesday night's Texas/Texas A&M telecast on ESPNU, they showed projected tourney seedings:
Gainesville #1 Texas / #8 Iowa State
Minneapolis #2 Penn State / #7 Minnesota
Omaha #3 Washington / #6 Hawaii
Palo Alto #4 Stanford / #5 Illinois
Think that's what I recall seeing . . .

I think they would sooner fudge things a bit, and put Texas with Minnesota in the MN regional, and have Penn State and Iowa State go to Gainesville, to avoid (projected) intra-conference regional finals.

Texas and Iowa State knocked off Oregon and UCLA last year to meet in the Regional Final in Austin. I don't see that rematch happening. Even for the NCAA that would be ridiculous.
