Paula Weishoff remains my first choice. I admit that her leaving UC Irvine after one year is a little troubling. She has recruited some solid players to UCI for 2010. There always seems to be a downside when a coach changes schools.

If you believe the source in Cindy Luis's blog, the finalists are Mike Sealy, Reed Sunahara, Paula Weishoff, and Tom Hilbert. What happened to all the talk about Karch Kiraly being a great candidate? The list is interesting. Reed has been wanting out of Cincinnati for as long as I can remember -- based on his name popping up for coaching vacancies every year. On Weishoff, something doesn't sit quite well with me when a coach stays for one year and then tries to get another coaching job at a different school. (e.g., Lane Kiffin) If Mike Sealy was walking down the street in Beverly Hills and ran into Jennifer Garner, would she think he was Michael Vartan? Or would she continue walking by? Tom Hilbert, I don't get his connection to UCLA. Well Reed isnt interested and I heard Paula wasnt either, so not sure how accurate this is. I do know Sealy wants it and havent heard anything about Hilbert

This storied program must have fallen on real hard time when other coaches who played/coached there are not interested in going back. Is there something behind the scene that we don't see that is causing others to hesitate to take the job? I thought when Andy retired it would not take long to find a replacement yet this has dragged on so long that something must be up.
I hope they find a coach soon. The sooner the better for ALL parties. It would allow the school who lose their coach to find a replacement before spring practice starts and it would allow UCLA to get started on rebuilding the team.
I hope Mike stays at UH but if he is going to go please go early...UH need time to convince Scott Wong to come back...otherwise we going be stuck with Ryan Tsuji.

Thanks for that link. Nice story. Loved the shot of him playing with the team - there was some air between his feet and the floor! He'll be peppering with his grandkids I'm sure.

Great piece on Andy B. He's humble, well credentialed and his track record speaks for itself. Kind of reminds me of another ex-coach from UCLA...

Dunning is leaving Stanford for the WNY job. Hugh is going to Stanford and Stanford's #1 assistant is going to take the UCLA job.....it's unofficially official!

On more of an official note, tonight according to one of the local Hawaii news stations, Sealy announced that he was indeed one of the final four candidates for UCLA HC. .

if there are four candidates, then UCLA isnt doing a very good job. They shouldnt have candidates. Identify someone go after them. If they turn it down go after your #2 choice. This is UCLA not Towson St.

This is UCLA not Towson St. You should call the Athletic Director at UCLA and tell him what he is doing wrong. I don’t see what is wrong with interviewing multiple candidates. There is no way the AD can tell in advance who is the best fit for UCLA, who he will be comfortable working with, who will accept the compensation package being offered until after the interview process. When all the interviews and information gathering is done, the AD can decide which candidate he wants to give the job offer. Are you saying the AD should know who the best person is before he even talks to that person? Better to have multiple candidates to choose from in my opinion.

There just aren't that many GREAT candidates that are from UCLA. Depends on what "GREAT" means. Names mentioned include Mike Sealy and Karch Kiraly. I mentioned Dave Nichols, although I suppose one could have doubts about whether or not he'd be right for the job.
