Interesting that the players with the gaudy stats are from middle of the road teams. That is why they have the stats, b/c the teams rely on them so much. Top teams are normally balanced and don't have as many players with the big stat lines. Yes, there are a few exceptions like in digs and block.

Speaking of digs, that kid from UCI is special. Has my support (so far) as newcomer of the year.

The whole UCI "team concept" is special. Shades of UCLA in the old days. No superstars..but a great team. Coach of the Year is Speraw.

Good teams have many guys to go to, and stats like kills per game get swept under the rug. Hitting percentages are still pertinent, but the fewer sets you get the fewer really good sets you get. Stats are also a product of who you play against. A steady stream of good MPSF opponents week after week will make any good hitter feel a little squeezed.

The exceptions. The very good exceptions.

Something I find a little ironic is that Hawaii doesn't have a single player in the top 20 for individual hitting percent, but is tied for fifth in the nation for overall hitting percent and with only one MPSF team (BYU) above them.

There really should be more TEAM stats posted. It would be interesting to see where teams stack up, not individuals. My guess is it would roughly fall into line with the poll numbers???
BS - I said "ROUGHLY" not absolutely! Can you imagine how he carries on during football season with the BCS?
