Here's my list:OH - Yosleder Cala, BYU; The guy is hitting .497 (tops in the nation among outsides). Since when do outsides hit better than most middles?
OH - Ivan Perez, BYU; Before Cala came along many coaches were saying that Ivan was the best outside in the nation. He's just as good now as he was then, and he's still putting up numbers.
MB - Andy Hein, Pepperdine; Dominant hitter and blocker. If you don't think he should be here you shouldn't be on this board.
MB - Dio Dante, Hawaii; A big reason why Hawaii is in the hunt for a final four spot.
OPP - Evan Patak, UC Santa Barbara; I would still like to see his hitting percentage go up, but there's no questioning the fact that he is the dominant opposite in the nation right now.
S - Tyler Hildebrand, Long Beach State; Whatever Long Beach State's problems are they are not his fault. He is still the best setter in the nation.
My Second Team:
OH - C.J. Macias, IPFW; reason why I think they will win the MIVA.
OH - Paul Carrol, Pepperdine; didn't believe the hype, then I saw him play.
MB - Victor Batista, BYU; the all-american from 2004 having another great year.
MB - Russell Holmes, BYU; the coming out party continues. 6th in the nation in hitting %.
OPP - Duncan Budinger, Long Beach State; Um...he's still good!
S - Jon Winder, Pepperdine; I would still take Hidebrand over him, but great young talent.
Good list but a little BYU biased. I would take Tarr over Perez for first team.
If I were to base it only on numbers I would take Tarr as well, but if I went that rout I would also have to make Rob Nielson the first team setter.
Tarr is a good player, but there are a lot of good outside hitters this year. So far, from what I have seen, I would have to take Perez.
Hawaii is playing extremely well inside their new system, but Dante has been a blocking machine! That's why he is on the list as the other middle on the first team.
My reason for putting both BYU middles on the second team is simple: Batista is amazing, and Holmes is a complete middle that ranks in the top 10 nationally in blocks and hitting percentage (only other player to do that at any position is Andy Hein).
