As of right now, who would be on the 1st and 2nd All-American Teams. Who could be this year's POY?
My First Team looks something like this:
Tyler Hildebrand Evan Patak Andy Hein Dio Dante and or Victor Batista Jayson Jablonsky Robert Tarr Alfie Reft
Second Team:
Jonathan Winder or Brian Thornton or Brian Beckwith (I like all of these guys) David Smith Brian Waite or Teddy Liles Yosleyder Cala Jose Delgado Matt Webber or Lauri Hakala or Dan Rhodes Brent Asuka
Honorable Mentions: John Parfitt Ivan Perez Matt Proper Steven Klosterman Theo Brunner Juan Figueroa Rob Neilson
I make this list having not seen very many MIVA/EIVA teams so please forgive if this list looks a little West-Coast biased.

As much as I like Tyler (LBSU), the team just hasn't had the year they should've. I think Winder and Beckwith are more deserving of the 1st Team appointment.
I know that Dante is putting up some nice numbers, but 1st Team AA? If you've ever watched him, you would never guess that he is AA. I don't know, I just think he's not at that level yet .... but he certainly has improved since he got to UH.

HILDEBRAND MUST HAVE HAD A GOOD NIGHT TONIGHT !!!!!! IT LOOKS LIKE PEPPERDINE FELL ASLEEP BEFORE BEDTIME TONIGHT !!!!! DID THEY TAKE LONG BEACH LIGHTLY ? OR DI LONG BEACH FINALLY PLAY UP TO THEIR POTENTIAL. YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE IN THE TOP NINE TO GET INTO THE PLAYOFFS AND UNLESS YOU ARE THE # 8 OR 9 TEAM THREE WINS GETS YOU TO THE PLAYOFFS.

Nobody out here is should be on the list. EIVA is in a down year. Maybe worse ever!
But I think they have to include someone from each league. Kinda like baseball allstar team.

Could Reft possibly be a POY candidate???!
I would love to one day see not a setter, or middle, or outside hitter as the NPOY, but a Libero!!!

I don't know if Klosterman should be a candidate...
However, not one CSUN player mentioned. I have been watching them this year, only Brian Waite is deserving, but he and the setter aren't clicking.
If they don't have one AA, then they must work best as a team together.

How about Meerstein from PSU and C.J. Macias from IPFW? I think the AA list is 10 players long versus 7 for the conferences 1st team lists.

Here's my list:
OH - Yosleder Cala, BYU; The guy is hitting .497 (tops in the nation among outsides). Since when do outsides hit better than most middles?
OH - Ivan Perez, BYU; Before Cala came along many coaches were saying that Ivan was the best outside in the nation. He's just as good now as he was then, and he's still putting up numbers.
MB - Andy Hein, Pepperdine; Dominant hitter and blocker. If you don't think he should be here you shouldn't be on this board.
MB - Dio Dante, Hawaii; A big reason why Hawaii is in the hunt for a final four spot.
OPP - Evan Patak, UC Santa Barbara; I would still like to see his hitting percentage go up, but there's no questioning the fact that he is the dominant opposite in the nation right now.
S - Tyler Hildebrand, Long Beach State; Whatever Long Beach State's problems are they are not his fault. He is still the best setter in the nation.
My Second Team: OH - C.J. Macias, IPFW; reason why I think they will win the MIVA. OH - Paul Carrol, Pepperdine; didn't believe the hype, then I saw him play. MB - Victor Batista, BYU; the all-american from 2004 having another great year. MB - Russell Holmes, BYU; the coming out party continues. 6th in the nation in hitting %. OPP - Duncan Budinger, Long Beach State; Um...he's still good! S - Jon Winder, Pepperdine; I would still take Hidebrand over him, but great young talent.

good list huntz but UC Irvine is number 2 in the nation and you don't think that they should have any players on the 1st or 2nd team? I think their freshman libero Bret Asuka is worthy, and jablonsky whould be first team and webber second.

I took the fact that Irvine was #2 into consideration. I think Jablonsky could be on the second team, and you'll notice that I didn't put any liberos on there (I haven't seen any teams that had liberos that I was truly impresed with). I see Irvine as being a team that plays great together rather than relying on any dominant players. We'll see what happens though.

The real reason Hawaii is in the hunt for a Final Four berth this year is more a reflection of much better ball control than Dante's presence. Not to dismiss the fact that he has put up the numbers, but I think it's more a matter of the faster offense and the fact that most of the offense is coming from the pins.
Reft, Carrere, and Delgado have REALLY been the catalyst to Hawaii's success this year. Last year's roster was the same as this years, with the exception of a big gun and his big serve. For all intensive purposes, last year's team was better on paper than this year's team. The difference? ..... passing and serving.

I would take Tarr over Perez for first team.
