...against one of those weaker schools. But we sure did need a freakin win. 3-0 over Carthage in about an hour. After just getting back to Chicago from Cali, Loyola will fly out to Hawaii for a 2 match stand Friday and Saturday. And it isn't going to be easy.

I'm prediciting a Hawaii sweep. 3-0 3-1. hawaii will dominate night one and then relax a little night two but still cruise to an easy win. I'm not saying that Loyala is bad but Hawaii is awesome at home.

IF strength of schedule is any indication of post-season play....
Loyola is doing everything right (of MIVA teams) and they will be in the FF. PSU (of course) UCI is incredable in their schedule and already played a couple of games in the FF gym. (won) LBSU great schedule and also played in FF gym. (lost to PSU by alot)
UCI over LBSU in 4

I guess UCI winning at Penn State's gym last year makes them more ready this year. Did they play at Penn state this year? PSU must have had a dozen offers from MPSF teams to play in their gym this year to get ready for FF.
So I guess Irvine having a better record at PSU will beat LB because they lost at PSU. (the FF gym)
Great conclusion

looking at the scores, it seems like they were looking forward to put down a beat down on carthage after their trip. carthage has typically been more competitive with the upper MIVA teams, not tonight though.
good luck to them at hawaii though. regardless of how they do, that'll be a fun trip for a team from Chicago.

According to the standings now, they would be forced to play Pepperdine at Pepperdine in the first round match up, then probably UCI, and the winner of BYU/UH (assuming all goes to seed). Their record right now isn't going to get them into the Final Four without winning the MPSF tournament.

Talk about preparing your team mentally and physically for the tournament. Getting back from California to play a match and fly out to Hawaii is no easy task. Loyola must have a budget this year!!

Is Loyola the favorite to win the MIVA at this point ? I would assume playing the better teams may make the overall schedule look bad , but the only way an MIVA team gets in is by winning the tournament , right ? There isn't any chance of two MIVA teams in the playoffs at this point , is there ? Is the experience of traveling so much really worth it ?? Does playing the better teams make you better ?? Or does it get in there skull to lose ??

There isn't any chance of two MIVA teams in the playoffs at this point , is there ? Is the experience of traveling so much really worth it ?? Does playing the better teams make you better ?? Or does it get in there skull to lose ?? I'll attempt to answer these one at a time. I would say that Loyola is one of the favorites as I believe in my opinion that there is no runaway favorite as of now. Loyola is only 1 up in the loss column to Ball St., Ohio St., and a hot IPFW. I think CJ Macias out of IPFW will probably win the MIVA Player of the Year as he's already amassed four 30 kill matches with his team winning all four of those. I'm most worried about IPFW as Loyola still has to go on the road to Fort Wayne and Columbus. Obviously, there is the conference tournament that needs to be played to send the midwest representative to the final four. No, there is no chance that 2 MIVA teams will get into the Final Four. Haven't you heard of the west coast and all of those good teams??? The experience is well worth going out west to play. It's always good no matter whate sport to play good teams. Otherwise, should we just play all Division 3 and NAIA teams for the nonconference schedule? Plus Loyola gets a little more exposure to the volleyball fanatics in the west. Playing teams only makes a team better if they learn from the experience. There we go again...experience. And I'm not even sure what it means to "skull to lose"

Have people forgotten that BYU is still in the hunt. How about Hawai'i? All I keep hearing is Pepp and LBSU...remember both teams split with the affore mentioned BYU and Hawai'i... As it stands the MPSF is still, kinda, wide open. Plus you have the dark horse Team, Norhridge. In fact we might as well start putting odds on who will face who in the first round....Well any takers? here are the current standings (from MPSF Site)....
MPSF Overall W L Pct. W L Pct. UC Irvine 12 2 .857 19 3 .864 Hawai'i 11 3 .786 13 4 .765 Brigham Young 12 4 .750 14 4 .778 Pepperdine 12 4 .750 12 4 .750 Long Beach State 10 5 .667 15 6 .714 UC Santa Barbara 8 8 .500 12 10 .545 CS Northridge 7 7 .500 12 8 .600 USC 6 10 .375 10 12 .455 UCLA 5 9 .357 12 11 .522 Pacific 5 9 .357 7 13 .350 Stanford 2 14 .125 4 18 .182 UC San Diego 0 15 .000 1 19 .050
