MIVA Tournament Begins March 30
The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament will open play March 30 with Coleman Division members Carthage, the eighth-seed and ninth-seed MSOE playing at Carthage. The Carthage/MSOE winner will advance to play seventh-seed Clarke, April 1, at Clarke. That winner will advance to the MIVA Tournament Quarterfinals as the No. 7 seed. Three quarterfinal matches will be played April 21-22, with the No. 1 seed receiving a bye in the round. No. 1 to No. 6 seeds are based on the regular season finish, not including Lewis, in the Shondell/Dunlap Division. The No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds will host the quarterfinal matches with the three winners advancing to the semifinals, April 27, hosted by the No. 1 seed. The semifinal winners will advance to the MIVA Tournament Championship match, April 29, with that winner receiving the MIVA automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Semifinals, May 4 at Penn State.

Up until now, I was wondering if the MIVA was restructuring the playoff format or not. Lewis's self barring from the post-season probably made the 2 play-in games necessary. Otherwise, I'd assume there would just be the one game. The way it it, there are 6 teams in the top division and 3 teams in the bottom divison that can qualify for the tournament this year. Central ST is a provisional member and will not participate in the playoffs. This sounds similar to the MPSF.
