We have heard a lot about the teams/coaches that were against this passing, but does anyone know what schools have committed to sponsoring a sand team. It will be interesting to see how it breaks down by conference. My feeling would be that many of the Pac-10 schools would do it but not many Big 10 or Big 12 schools even though all of them have the money.

Yes, I want to know, too. Does Rich Kern have sand on his website? I think I'll go pop over there and see what's up...
Nope, nothing over there about sand that I could see. It had been a while since I logged in...almost forgot my password.

If I recall correctly, Georgia State was hiring a new Head Coach and "sand volleyball" was listed under the job description.
Have not heard much else. In my opinion, it is great that it will be an official sport, however I feel it does not make sense for many schools. The season should be more about tournaments at select locations with a lot of schools, rather then team A vs. team B matches. I hope that many Pac-10's adopt it right away, as I feel that will be the best way for it to flourish.

I heard a while ago that Cal will have a team. Remains to be seen if that happens though....

Washington just cut swimming (for men and women) a year ago, so I don't think they'll be adding a new varsity sport anytime soon, although I suppose a club sport (sans scholies) might be possible. I would guess that most varsity sand teams will be concentrated in California and Florida, with well-healed schools in the interior, such as Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Nebraska, Penn State, etc., joining them.
Now, what happens if a player is recruited to play sand volleyball but also turns out for indoor? Can they stay on a sand scholie while also playing indoor? I would guess not. If so, that could be an advantage for schools with both sand and indoor teams.

that question...and a bunch more are being sorted out this year....so hopefully the fall of 2011 when this is supposed to get going, the specifics will be nailed down.

Well, I'd look at the Conferances that are supporting events like the Fiesta in Siesta. I'll email Dave Carstenson who put that event on and see if he has an initial list of schools.

it but not many Big 10 or Big 12 schools even though all of them have the money. Might be less money than you think as the Big 10 recently voted out Media Guides, and also happened to be the sponsoring conference behind the elimination of some spring stuff to save money.

With the AVP season only overlapping a few weeks with the potential "sand volleyball" season, does anyone think a bunch of the California schools may be interested in hiring AVP players in a part time role? I'm not saying the top players who are well off, but those players who are still trying to get by without a full time job. Seems like a good recruiting tool and a way to get your school on the map.

Well, I'd look at the Conferances that are supporting events like the Fiesta in Siesta. Not necessarily, Florida participated and they have no intention of starting a program in the near future...the same goes for many other SEC schools.

I read somewhere about the potential rules to be used. Anyone know where I can find that info? I've checked on the NCAA site and the info is limited.

I don't think many schools in the south are interested in starting a sand prgoram.

If so, that could be an advantage for schools with both sand and indoor teams. On the NCAA's flowchart of where scholarships count for multi-sport athletes, the only one that is (and will be) above WVB(indoor) is WBB...so any athletes that are playing 2 sports, 1 of which being indoor VB, would count against indoor.
