Here are the brackets: mwvc.net/Las%20Vegas.htmlIt will be interesting to see the pool match-ups of MSU-UCSD, Whitewater-Cal Poly, UCLA-James Madison ...and overall, how the top six teams or so perform.

I guess a lot of the midwest and east coast teams probably couldn't justify it as much with Salt Lake City costing alot more than KC or Charlotte. That's too bad, the tourney last year was an awesome collection of teams.
Someone keep us posted on who looks good at Vegas this week though.
Midwest 10 Championships this Saturday. 6 teams in the rankings, but I'll guess Oshkosh over Lakeland in a good one. I don't know what would be more interesting though, Oshkosh finally dropping a match, or seeing Lakeland's coach whine and yell. Either one is fine.

Is there a national tournament to determine club rankings , or national championship ? Or at least one tournament above the rest that in your ( anyones ) opinion is a gauge to establish a club heirarchy ?

Variety of interesting links up at the top....you might find all kinds of stuff worth reading....and probably some stuff not worth your time either....
I am going to rag on Odin too....folks can even get a bit educated if the logo from the Club Nationals is placed at the bottom like it was last year. (Request #3). Perhaps not allowed for some reason??

Vegas Recap: Interesting tournament. Some very good volleyball was played. Overall, I would say that there were more solid teams at Vegas than at Indiana. It definitely showed where some teams are at right now as far as a consistency level. MSU took Arizona to 3 games in the final with Arizona taking 1st in the tourney. Navy and MSU were the only two teams to only lose 1 match. Not sure what happened to Whitewater or Texas A&M, but they missed gold bracket play. UCLA looked pretty good and has some varsity players swinging for them. Cal Poly also came on pretty strong for a good finish. This is how the top 6 ended up: 1. Arizona 2. Michigan State 3. UCLA 4. Cal Poly 5. Navy 6. JMU
I am not sure how many people from here post from any west coast teams that were there but it would be interesting to hear their take on things. Anyone know if Arizona still has scholarship players?...They look to be tough to beat

As a public service announcement, here are the NIRSA rankings (top 15) from several days ago:
1 UW-Oshkosh 2 Lakeland 3 Arizona 4 Michigan State 5 Illinois 6 UW-Whitewater 7 UCLA 8 Marquette 9 Colorado 10 Maryland 11 Virginia Tech 12 Navy 13 Dayton 14 Texas A&M 15 Minnesota
JMU and Cal Poly were only honorable mention.
So move JMU and Cal Poly up into the rankings, move up Navy a bit ...while Whitewater, Maryland, and Texas A&M slide down? This next weekend will sort out much more, certainly in the midwest and east with big tournaments. Out west, too?
For now, Oshkosh, Lakeland, Arizona, Illinois, MSU and UCLA are a good group at the top, in whatever order (though Marquette, Colorado, and others could shuffle this up!).

Far as I know Arizona has no scholarship players at this point. Perhaps someone from there/southwest area can confirm that? The money they had to do that left awhile back when the son of the funder graduated. ....I believe that is the case. Having that money for several years tho, gave them good players and big time wins at NIRSA. That attracts good players...and they have been competitive right along.
NCCVL has League Championships for this weekend, so we will see who if anyone has gotten better over the past month.
I am surprised Fresno did not do well at Vegas. Poly has seniors, so this is the time to do their best. If they keep their head in the game and stop arguing with the refs, they can be quite good. I hear they have a 6'6" very good frosh setter on campus who is not playing at all this year. He will likely show up next year, with all the veterans graduating and a new bunch on the team.
UCLA is not very tall, and as I have only seen them onematch, not sure how they are winning, but they apparently are well coached and likely getting better. I hope there is more north south CA competition next year.
Stanford took one of the better NCCVL teams(I forget which) to 5 in a loss two weeks ago in San Diego tourney, so they will likely start winning next year. Don't know if they are going to Nationals this year....likely not.
For those going to Nationals in SLC, we have been referred to Rodizio's Grille for eats. The website is tempting.

just wanted to make a couple comments about cal poly. First of all they are only graduating their 3rd middle and are returning everyone else. And, who the heck is this 6'6" setter and how can I get a hold of him?

Excellent 6'6" setter is a Poly frosh this year from Serra High School in San Mateo. check your frosh dorm listings. Should be fairly easy to spot. : ) Apparently not on the same page as the current players.....or so the water cooler story goes. Who knows? Maybe he is done with vb and the story got twisted. I would imagine he might be playing rec ball if still keeping his hand in. If your current setter is returning, then the setter spot may be taken. 4 seniors listed on Poly roster. Most returning for grad work?
