Certainly the Pressure is on the players and coaches to ge the PSU ship going on a consistent path. The sense of urgency can be felt/seen by the way Pavlik is coaching ......going all the way back to the preseason.
He trimmed his practice team down considerably (which may have been a mistake) and has been a heck of alot more animated in his coaching style.
With the proposed 8 team playoff field the 1 match into the final opportunity will fade to history.....and we all know this.
His senior leadership has been ....ok.... but not up to his or most coaches standards. Socially these guys get A's but with the exception of Proper I'm not sure guys like O'dell and Meerstein have really improved that much in the past year of two.
1 month to get their heads on straight. As I said this is the luxury that PSU has. The one-nightof all the stars aligning like they did back in Feb has to become a string of nights.
As far as the discipline factor.....we ARE all human and do make poor decisions....even 20 year old guys. The young man immediately fessed up to his poor judgement , is serving a timeout, has been beat up in the court of public opinion and is hoping to get a chance to make amends. If he gets another opportunity.....so be it......if he doesn't.....so be it. No judgement from me either way.
UCANTBSME - You nor I are not in the coach's shoes and do not know all the facts. I would suggest we all tone the dirty laundery/stone throwing stuff out. There are plenty of of stories out there on the sports......even Men's Volleyball that need to stay inhouse
O'dell is recovering from minor cleanup surgery on his knee and hopefully will be ready to go.
Do I expect to see PSU in the Final 4 - yes. Hope? Yes Think they are the better team ? yes!
But really from a volleyball experience perspective it would not be good to have PSU not present.
Watching games at Hawaii, PSU, BYU have traditionally become very good crowd experiences. Having the FF in State College and not having PSU there would not be good for the sport......or at least not that weekends experience.
Realism.
Everytime PSU hosted 82' (Filled- Standing room only- PSU lost in Finals) '86 packed house and '00 large house.....all were from what I understand intense exciting atmospheres that all members of every team loved.
BTW I have been to Final 4's at Pauley with UCLA in it and winning. Boring crowd.....and poorly attended. Downright bummer!
It is amazing to me that with the "millions" of VB players in So Cal that they have trouble filling and/or generating the excitement of the formentioned places for such an prestigeous event.
