I suppose I could create 2 threads instead of just the one. I'll try it this way. Let me know if you prefer two. There is an FIVB event that started today (men's only -- Patria in the Czech Republic) and this weekend is the AVP Virginia Beach Open for both Men and Women.
At Patria, there are just 3 American teams: Rogers/Dalhausser, Gibb/Rosenthal & Keenan/Jennings. All three are waiting on the main draw. Qualifying started today. You know a country has great beach volleyball when someone like Ricardo (with Araujo) is forced to go through qualifying! They won their first round match. "Geor-Gia" (Gomes-Terceiro) also won their match as they continue to re-accumulate points for the tour. I don't know the story behind why they have so few points.
Virginia Beach qualifying starts on Friday with the main draw Saturday. The women's finals will be telecast on ESPN2 Saturday at 2pm. I can't find the list of entered teams on the main AVP page. FIVB is off for these next 2 weekends for the women, so I would expect that we'll have most of the top teams in Virginia and Belmar.

Day one of the main draw at Patria. It's a straight double-elimination tournament with no pool play.
Big upset in round 2: Gibb/Rosy beat Rogers/Dalhausser! Good thing it's double-elimination. Score was 21-14, 23-21. R-D probably will play Geor/Gia in the losers bracket tomorrow (not a gimme match), while G-R will play the 8th seed from Poland, Fijalek-Prudel.
Keenan-Jennings won their first round match, but are playing Brink-Reckerman of Germany as I write this. They've published scores of all the other matches that started at the same time, so I'm guessing this one must be a close match if it's still going.
Something must be up with Klemperer-Koreng of Germany. They lost in the first round this week. It was a very close match (25-23,25-23), but still. They did win their first elimination match.

To finish up yesterday, Jennings/Keenan did take Brink/Reckerman to 3 before falling in the winner's bracket 2nd round. Not a bad result against one of the top teams in the world. Today, Keenan/Jennings won their first match, but lost to the Brazilians Benjamin/Bruno to finish 13th overall.
Gibb/Rosenthal have continued their run to the final four of the winners bracket where they'll face last week's winners, Wu/Xu of China. Wu/Xu had to beat two strong teams from Brazil to make the 4th round, so they are following up their tour victory with more stellar play.
So far today, Rogers/Dalhausser won both of their elimination matches in 2 -- including the match against Geor/Gia. They'll next face 27th seeds Kolodinsky-Koshkarev of Russia, who earlier in the tourney had moved Benjamin/Bruno to the losers bracket, so they're not to be taken lightly.

Virginia Beach qualifying has started this morning. I'm not familiar with many of the qualifiers, but I did notice a few names that are familiar to some here on volleytalk.
Summer Ross is trying to qualify on the women's side with partner Petia Yanchulova as the 18th qualifier seed. Brook Billings, former indoor olympic player, is trying to qualify on the men's side.

Thanks for the updates. Very interesting! I'm having fun with it and I have some time on my hands at the moment. Of course, today I did the update shortly after the US gave up the first goal against Slovenia in Soccer (and generally get outplayed to start).

As action finished up today at Patria, Gibb/Rosenthal lost in 2 to Wu/Xu and so will play a round in the loser's bracket to make it back to the semifinals. Brink-Reckerman are the other current semifinalists. Rogers/Dalhausser won their match against the Russians and need to win against 4th seeded Herrera/Gavira of Spain tomorrow for the rematch against Gibb/Rosy. The winner of the likely all-american rematch would face Brink/Reckerman in the semis. The other side of the loser's bracket is all Brazilian: Cunha/Thiago vs Benjamin/Bruno for the chance to face Alison/Emanuel. Winners here would face Wu/Xu.

Both Ross & Billings qualified today. Ross' partnership had to defeat the second seeded team to qualify. I just noticed, too, that Janelle Koester (former AVP regular) was also trying to qualify, but did not make it through.

Ross's team almost knocked off Misty & Nicole. WOW! 21-16, 19-21, 15-13 (1:04) Wish I could've seen it - wonder how this happened?

I'm one of the lucky midwesterners who is out of power. I have a generator, but it only works in 45min intervals and it takes my wonderful computer about 35min to boot up after power is knocked out. I'm cutting this short because I know I'll lose power any second...

Power has been restored a day early!
At Patria, Rogers/Dalhausser squeaked by the 4th seeded Spaniards in 3: 17-21, 23-21, 15-13 to advance to the last round of the loser's bracket where they won the rematch against Gibb/Rosenthal also in 3:21-14, 18-21, 15-8. Meanwhile, Alison/Emanuel of Brazil won the "Brazilian" half of the loser bracket draw.
Both teams won the tournament semifinals and will face each other in the finals tomorrow: Alison/Emanuel defeating Wu/Xu 22-20, 21-18 and Rogers/Dalhausser defeating Brink/Reckerman 21-16, 21-14

If I had to guess, I'd say that May/Branagh probably took their first round match against a qualifier a bit too lightly -- not to mention that I'm sure that all the travel they go through makes it tough to start a tournament. Still a great showing by Summer (should make sure to mention which Ross). They did follow up with a nice win over the 17th seeded team of Chara Harris / Megan Wallin before losing to the 15th seeds and finishing in the 17th-place tie As it is, the final-4 of the women's winner's bracket is the predictable 3 "international" teams (Ross/Kessy, May/Branagh & Akers/Turner) and the veterans Scott/Youngs. Results for Women here: bvbinfo.com/Tournament.asp?ID=2281&Process=matchesResults for men here: bvbinfo.com/Tournament.asp?ID=2280&Process=matchesReally, no huge surprises in the final-8 on either side. Mike DiPierro/Steven Grotowski as the 13th seeds on the men's side is a nice showing for them, though. I wonder if Grotowski will find a British partner in the next year or so and try to get that home country berth in 2012? Looking at the rankings, the top team from Great Britain is currently #60 Robin Miedzybrodzki/Gregg Weaver with a minimal 96 points...

Well considering it was the first day of the main draw play, and the first match no less, I'm pretty sure everyone that remotely follows beach volleyball figured it wasn't Ross/Kessy vs. Misty/Nicole in the opening match.

Rogers/Dalhausser won Patria!
They defeated Alison/Emanuel 21-15, 14-21, 15-11. Brink/Reckerman defeated Wu/Xu for the bronze. Gibb/Rosenthal finished 5th yesterday.
