This is an example of what is wrong with these boards. The suggestion that a Marv Dunphy player, and a starter at that, would feign injury in order to stay off the court is just nuts. There is some interesting banter posted here, and some interesting and fun predictions as well. It's just too bad about the jealousy expressed by vbdog. Identify yourself, vbdog!

For the record, there are two VBDogs on the board. I'm the original. I've never posted anything negative. Since the new guy (who goes lower case vbdog) is stepping on my style I'm abandoning the handle. Some people know me, so it's important to me. I'll figure out a new handle. Maybe new people can look around and come up with something original for themselves in the future. I will admit that I haven't posted much lately so he could feel he could take it by default.

Since he was ineligible last year, would Gustavo Mayer be elligible for FOY?

Beau Peters Long Beach State was my pre-season FOY and he turned out to be A BUST. I also liked Duncan Budinger Long Beach State. However, Tyler Hillerbrand Long Beach State and Hein for Pepperdine has been looking pretty good. I like to aggressive play of Tyler, and Hein is a very good high percentage hitter, his block is alittle suspect, but that we come in time. Still too early to pick a FOY. Bookkumdanoaloha

I think we would havee to throw Dan O'dell into the mix. Being a true Freshman and being thrown into the "Fire" and responding teh way he has, I would have to consider him.
He is inheriting a more Veteran team but at least I would consider him in the top 5. But as the season progresses we will see how everything shakes out. This coming weekend will be a great test for the kid.
My personal vote at this stage would go to the LB Setter though.

From what I've seen, LBS brought in two excellent freshmen setters who were forced to compete for the job. The coaches opted for TH to start. BP waited his turn, then finally got the start at UCLA and the team won a big match with him setting. That's hardly a sign of being a "bust." The next week he sprained his ankle and couldn't play for a while. TH got the start again, played extremely well and continues to play very well. They usually only put one setter on the floor at a time.

Hey LB Fan
I apologize to Beau and I must admit that was a poor choice of words. It's just that when I saw Beau early in the season, he looked so promising - my preseason pick for FOY. Then I heard he lost his starting job, then, last I heard he "quit the team". Thanks for the update on him. Tyler is doing an outstanding job. I guess its going to be a setting controversy at the Beach for the next four years. Bookumdanoaloha

Beau did quit, so I don't expect any controversy for at least the next three years. Knock on wood!

I just don't want to see good people innapropriatly viewed anywhere, let alone on a board like this. BP has left the team. Did he leave on his own, or was it mutual...? We're all wondering about that. I do know he committed very early to the LBS program and he surely felt they had made a committment to him they weren't keeping. Part of that is hearsay, part of that is my educated guess. He is a highly talented setter and I for one enjoyed watching him. The prospects of picking pine for 4 years is a highly motivating factor for righting the ship. He's too good to sit. I'd have been unhappy myself, and can't blame him. But those of us who sit in my group cringe everytime TH slips since we don't have a first class backup anymore.

Here's a suggestion. You could register under the handle "VBDog" so people can tell you a part from another person.

Milking a broken foot after five weeks? Hmmm. How long does a broken foot take to heal? My recollection is that it takes a couple of months. BY the way, what exactly did he break? Perhaps EP can post the x-rays here. More power to Andy Hein. In the mean time, maybe poster EP can identify himself Saturday night in Malibu. How about running a lap around the court carrying a big caricature of Webb milking a cow? After all, he is a Wisconsin boy! Where is EP's team ranked? Correction VBdog was the orthopedic poster, not EP. Is VBdog's team rated? Have they played Pepperdine yet? Was VBdog recruited by Pepperdine? I was just about to reply to the first post, lucky I looked at page 2 before I made a comment. But for the curious, my team is ranked just below the waves, and yes we played each other to a split. And dammit jim I lost those xrays!!!
