While I do like the smaller and more compact arenas, I do have one problem with Crawford Court: the lighting. Compared to any other gym I've been in (at the college level) it has the worst lighting of them all. After a while of being in there it makes it hard to focus.
I really hope they hold the MSPF Tournament in the Bren.

Probably will have to because isn't the MPSF tournament going to be shown on CSTV. Wouldn't they need a bigger venue to host all those camera's and crew.

Maybe not, but I'm sure if they host, the matches will be in Bren.

They gotta host the tourney in the Bren, it'd be too hectic in Crawford. Everything would be more beneficial, larger crowd capacity, more revenue for Irvine, and just a better tournament atmosphere. In a large venue, it just hypes up the importance of teh games that much more, granted, Irvine feels more at home in Crawford, and its their home court advantage more than the bren, I still think the Bren is a sure fire.

This is similar to what happened to Loyola in 2005. Our historic Alumni Gym's capacity is 2,000, and that is with all bleacher seating. Our newer basketball gym holds 5,200, coincidentally mostly bleacher seating (on a related side note, we don't seem to like chairbacks a lot). But the '05 MIVA tournament was indeed held in our normal arena of 2,000. We actually only filled up about 1,200 fans for the semis for both games. But it may be different, in my opinion, for the MPSF since they attract many more fans that the midwest. Oh and Loyola will host the MIVA tournament for the 2nd year in a row after clinching the regular season crown in fron of the largest MIVA crowd of the year of 2,183 fans at IPFW.

Not to upset you, but I think the MIVA lost it's recent credibility when Deuser and Lewis took their hit. That's unfortunate too, b/c I think 2003's championship started to signal some parity back between the West and the rest. I for one liked the foreign players and their usually more higher-level skills.
We don't have a pro league, so the NCAA is really our farm system for the big boys. Having kick ass imports will only help our domestic talent in the long run, agreed? In fact, one could argue that the effects of the foreign invasion are already being seen in the current Men's team. Winning percentage of .818 last season? 5th place world ranking? An invite back into the World League? USA Men's vball is back, baby!

PS. Stuntz (Lewis) is an asst coach for USC. He usually warms up the setter doing right side in the hitting lines (he passes down balls to the setter). His platform is still impeccable...he could step into the game right now and be 1st team AVCA all over again. Amazing.
