It's going into game 5 and BYU has taken the 1st 2 and Beach the next 2...
31-29,30-26, 26-30, 22-30
What's gonna happen in game 5?!?!
From the internet broadcast the Cougars are sounding like they are not in rhythm.

That was a tremendous comeback for the Beach! They had at least three different line-ups and found one that worked. Tomorrow night will be interesting. When Long Beach is playing well, they are tough to beat. Unfortunately, they haven't been consistent enough.

Just got back from the match. It was terrifically entertaining. It's very refreshing to watch a coach adjust lineups and strategies when things aren't working - especially after watching some other programs with coaches unable to assess what is wrong.
The BYU middles were killing the Beach for the first two games. Budinger was then placed in the middle, and Hutton came in a lit a nice spark for the team. Great job by him tonight.

Robert lit UP in game 3 when Duncan went to the middle, and Duncan seemed more spirited there too. That single move created a higher level of enthusiasm by LBS. Hutton did well on the outside to fill that gap.

My my my how interesting things are going. I'm pretty astonished at that comeback win for LBSU. Hope they can do a repeat performance.
This brings me to my next question: If BYU does go the distance again with LBSU tomorrow night. Regardless of what the outcome is- only if it ends close like 15-13 in the fifth, how do you diagnose the exhaustion of them having to then fly to Hawaii for a pair of matches. Would they be physically ready?
Okay, BYU is beginning to scare me, even though they lossed, they still manage to play the Beach as close as heck. Those matches next weekend against Hawaii looks to be really really close/down to the wire/nailbiters.

A win by the beach tomorrow night (or not, depending on he tie breaker) takes the pressure off of Hawaii. Irvine looks to be a lock for hosting the MPSF and Hawaii now stands in the drivers seat for 2nd. I'd say, Hawaii has less pressure, but sweeping the series from BYU probably puts them in the drivers seat with the at-large as well.

I think that regardless of a BYU win/loss tomorrow night, a lot will be riding on next week's showdown in Honolulu. I don't think Hawaii is completely out of contention to win the reg. season. Remember if Irvine loses just one match, and Hawaii wins out their reg. season, the Warriors win the tiebreaker. True they LOOK to be a lock, but they won't get the recognition just yet... Like I said, the whole MPSF season will come down to the Final week of reg. season play- which makes it even more exciting.

This race is so close that it could really go down to the last night to determine play offs. A couple of possibilities to consider. BYU still has everything in their hands, however they need to win their last 3 to earn second place. That means beating the Beach tomorrow and sweeping the series in Hawaii. A loss to the Beach officially puts them out of the running for #2 (unless Hawaii gets upset by UCSD). A win against Long Beach means that a split with Hawaii and the tie break gives them the second seed. Either way, BYU and Hawaii will give it everything they have. I said in an earlier post that the coaches might hide some things considering they will meet up 2 weeks later in the MPSF semi finals and a probably at large bid. However, BYU will want the #2 seed. Hawaii, on the other hand, could knock BYU down as far as #4 assuming Pepperdine wins all remaining matches and Hawaii sweeps the series. Pepperdine (and their fans) should hope that either Long Beach or Hawaii can win 2 of the next 3 BYU matches. That gives Pepperdine the #3 seed and avoids giving them CSUN who will likely be the #5 seed.

Although a monumental task, if CSUN win's it's last 3 games, they beat Pepperdine in the tie breaker. The big challenge is Irvine but the way CSUN has played, they know they can do it.

The Beach can earn some serious props if they're able to shut down BYU tonight. I wonder how BYU is going to adjust to Beach's adjustment to Budinger back in the middle. You would think the BYU coaching staff would have counter-adjusted. Listening to games 4 and 5 on the radio it seemed as if BYU was frustrated and their unforced errors slit their own throats. But the simple explanation for the victory could be that Beach played with heart, fire, desire and executed at the net with power and precision (it sounded like Hildebrand stepped up in getting Tarr, Budinger and Hutton the ball.
It seems the team to watch out for right now is CSUN. They are smoking a trail behind them with their play these last couple of weeks. The MPSF is going to see HARD DRIVES for higher seeds and survival modes for 7 & 8 seeds these next 8 days!
You gotta love what's going on in the MPSF right now!
