Why aren't there more Alumni games at the Division 1 level?
USC has a alumni game in January UCLA has one in October Hawaii has an Alumni v Alumni game in March...
Why don't other schools with good v-ball tradition have a match every year too?
Pepperdine? Long Beach State?

I understand logistics with alumni playing pro etc, but an alumni game could be scheduled at almost any time in the year....
As a Pepp fan, I found myself thinking about seeing Big George, Scott Wong, a couple Barnetts, Brad Keenen, Rooney etc playing together ....
Fans would show up. Make it a fundraiser or something.

Long Beach State does have an Annual Alumni Game. It is in the very early part of the season in usually in the Gold Mine because Basketball is still going on.

Interesting twist on alumni games, when JO clubs want to have their alumni participate in a match during a break, some of the alumni players (now playing at the college level) are hesitant and have even inferred their college coaches do not want them to participate in them due to the risk of injury. I guess after college, most (not all) don't have anything to risk!

CSUN has an alumni game also. Just like Long Beach, it is done very early in the season (before Elephant Bar I think).
I don't think a lot of teams put the "match" on their posted schedules. It is fun to watch and listen. Lots of talk going on . . . even alumni to alumni.

I would research and see if it can be done in your case. (We had too many players on one team/season and off-season issues)

There is a 2-player rule for the NCAA (this comes up more often during the adultUSAV Nationals ) but I would always worry about collegiate athletes injuring themselves during their college season. I even worry about it when they are not in season. Many coaches play in scrimmages with their club players.....who are not as skilled as collegiate players....and may actually cause in injury. Ouch

I think a last minute scheduling of an Alumni game for the teams that host byes in the end of the season tournaments would be beneficial considering considerable layoffs between games for some of these teams. Or even last minute scheduling of top club teams coming up for a scrimmage because I'm sure they are hungry to play the best so it could be fun. Is this a bad idea considering the talent and level of play would be much higher the week after and could be a let down, or is it logistically much too difficult to put together at the last minute like i had stated earlier? Also is injury and rest too great a factor at this point in this season? What do you think?

I wouldn't play a club team before going into tournament. The level will be down, and will the players take it seriously. Also the club team is going to try and have something to prove and the match will probably turn into a trash talking match more than anything.

I agree the college team has too much to lose. I do like the Alumni games though because it brings back the newer and the older alumni. Fun to watch, had to opportunity to ref the Long Beach State Alumni game for a couple of years. The Alumni is brutal, they don't stop at anything but once the shenanigans stop there is really some good volleyball going on.

Pepperdine does actually have an alumni game. Its very early on in the season and there usually isn't too much press about it because, as usual, Marv likes it that way. In the past though, there has been a great turn-out of recent grads (Barnett, Keenan, Daniels, Van Reusen, Walker, McCaw, Wong, Roumain, etc) as well as a few older guys from some of the championship teams (Buck, Arnold, Stork). I agree that it could be made into a pretty great event, but until Marv agrees, its going to keep on being low key... just how Marv likes it.....

"isn't too much press about it" I think is an understatement... When I was a student there, there never was any press about it from what I can remember.... I would have LOVED to watch those games... hell
