David Russell looked impressive during warmup and started for Scott Morrow in the first 2 games. He looked like a scared little boy who does not know what he is doing on the court. He could have killed some of the overpasses but he missed them. He is the number 1 recruit 2 years ago and is really a Biiiiiiiiiggggggggg disappointment.

David Russell played terrible tonight. He totally blew his chance to show he is legit. Also what was the deal with Adam Schrader tonight? Every game Ive been to at Pauley this year he has passed nails. I guess tonight was not his night. Costas and Zimet really annoy me. I really respect their skill but Zimet is almost 27 and Costas is approaching 25. Too old to be playing against guys straight out of high school like Matt McKinney who learned their skill in club not in pro leagues. Too bad for the Bruins, Hawaii played great. Ching really impressed me. Hopefully UCLA can start playing better.

Costas is 23, equivalent to a senior who red-shirted his freshman year. Zimet is 26, the same age as Cameron Mount who would have been a senior at UCLA this year. Every team has or had international stand outs on their team. Its something that has developed in men's college volleyball. This trend has its positive and negative points but its something that just has to be accepted until the NCAA changes their policy.

I know, whats the deal with everyone thinking that Costas is like 35 years old?
Zimet is older true, but he has a height disadvantage to the majority of collegiate players straight out of high school today. There is no law or rule that prohibits an older player to play collegiate sports. Every university has the same right that Hawaii has to recruit older players. And any person no matter their age has a right to gain an education with help of an athletic scholarship. So whats the big deal? Im sure any team would take Costas and Zimet!
And I dont even think that Hawaii was Costas first choice to go to school. I believe he tried to get in at UCSB or somewhere like that. Maybe some Hawaii fans can verify this. TY in advance

As a parent of a player who was 17 when he started college, I struggle with idea that he competes with other who are several years older However, as long as they are within NCAA rules, then I cannot complain. Many schools have older players and it seems very inconsistent that UCLA fans (of all schools) are the ones complaining. Even Pena (UCLA) complained in the article posted on this site that Zimet(UH) was 26. Pena should check into some of his temmates ages before he speaks again. I spoke extremely briefly to David Russell prior to the UCLA-LBSU game and he said he was still struggling to come back from injury. We did not have time to elaborate but David is a great player and will rebound. Be patient. He is 19y/o.
