Al Scates will never be fired as UCLA's men's volleyball coach. Thirty-nine (yes, that's 39!) seasons at the helm of the Bruins while holding down a full-time job for most of that as an administrator for the Westwood School District, and 17 NCAA championships, I think Al's job is safe for as long as he wants it.
The real question is if Scates can convince Lavin's successor to continue to burn a basketball scholarship on McKinney or if he will have to pony up money from the volleyball pot to keep McKinney at UCLA.

Al has 18 NCs. And McKinney's schollie source next year will be interesting to follow. I really don't think Coach Scates has much to give Matt, so hopefully the basketball team will continue to honor whatever promises were made to him.

Al Scates was a Phys. Ed. teacher in the Beverly Hills school district for about 30 years.
There is no such thing as the "Westwood School District". Westwood is actually part of Los Angeles.
