"Turhan has earned the right to have the interim tag taken off his title," said Gross. "He has done a fine job so far this year. Although victories have not come easy as he is rebuilding our program, we like the overall direction Turhan has the program headed. His players play hard for him, they are learning and growing under him, and there's a real sense of respect for him within the team and the volleyball community. As he continues to rebuild the program, we know he'll have great success." Douglas, 33, served as a Trojan assistant the previous 3 years before replacing Pat Powers as head coach this season. He was a successful junior college and club coach before coming to USC from Pierce Junior College, where he was the men's head coach for 2 seasons (1998-99) and the women's head coach for 6 seasons (1993-98). His men's squad won the league title both years and was the state runner-up in 1999. He also spent 6 years (1996-2001) as the director and coach of the Santa Monica Beach Club. His 1998 team won the USA Junior Olympics Boys 17-and-Under championship. He was an assistant with the Santa Monica Junior College men's team for 4 years (1992-95).
