It does need a thread of its own. I loved his camps as a youngster I wish him all the best and hope he continues to be apart of volleyball.

He was the first real power in the SEC at Tennessee. Turned out some great teams, 1983 with Bonnie Kenney, Robin Maine, April Chapple. Also coached some studs like Irene (?) Mueller, a big big girl for the early 80s that was dominant. Best of luck, Bob.

Bob is a good man, and has done a ton for the sport particularly in this part of the country. All the best.

That 2002 tourney loss in State College is one of the worst PSU memories ever... Penn State lost to Temple in 2002? I recall a Rob Patrick team going into State College and knocking off #2 Penn State 3-1 in 2005 regional semi-finals. & Congrats to Mr Bertucci on a successfull volleyball career! ...oops I just saw that Temple upset #12 PSU 3-1 in the '02 tourney. Way to go Bob!

BILL COSBY TO TAKE OVER TEMPLE VOLLEYBALLby Swen EfakPhiladelphia Record & GazetteIn a move that stunned the college volleyball world, Temple University announced today that Bill Cosby will be the new volleyball head coach at Temple replacing Bob Bertucci who announced his retirement this week. Cosby, 73, a graduate of Temple has no coaching experience but is an avid volleyball fan and a major donor to Temple Alumnus groups. The move will give a major public relations boost to the Temple volleyball program, which has struggled the past few years, but a number of other NCAA coaches feel the move is all about publicity and not about good coaching. At the news conference announcing his hiring, Cosby said he knows how to motivate people and he'll leave the X's and O's to assistant coaches. Cosby also said after each game, win or lose, the team will all be given pudding. Cosby, being introduced to reporters and fans, by Temple assistant athletic director Yoshida Yerpantz. .

Sorry, Bob deserves better, so I'm bumping this thread back to the first page! Bob does deserve better, and it would be nice if you respected that on page 1 Excuse you, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Bob. He and I are good friends, have been for years. The comment you're getting your panties in a wad about was said in genuine concern that this decision wasn't aided by the team's season. The coming of age of programs like Dayton and St. Louis, along with Xavier being in the mix most years, means it's not the same A-10 that Temple use to dominant. Ask Bob, he'll tell you so himself, Temple has struggled the last several years. It's getting harder and harder to get quality kids to come to Philadelphia; the pipeline of foreign players isn't what it used to be with more attention paid by the NCAA; other programs in the Pennsylvania have improved and draw local players (look at the jump Josh made at Villanova this year and they're located fairly close to Temple). It's a legitimate inquiry in this day-n-age, especially with some of the people who've left positions the past few years. There's nothing wrong with hoping that the administration didn't take this year's record into consideration. It's also about hoping the administration respects what Bob has done for them during his time there. So back off Keystone - apparently you're not always smooth!!

It just seems odd that you would start a thread called "Bob Bertucci retires from Temple" and then later suggest that it may have been motivated by him having a few bad seasons. I consider him a friend as well, which is why I was dissapointed anyone would go there. Why cant "he retired" be enough, especially after starting a thread in a public forum stating he retired? I guess I just found it "simplycurious"
