From the LBS site:
PEPPERDINE STOPS LBSU Loss Snaps 49ers Six Match Win Streak
MALIBU, CA – The No. 1 ranked Pepperdine men’s volleyball team defeated the No. 4 ranked Long Beach State 49ers, 3-1, in MPSF play at the Firestone Fieldhouse, Thursday evening. Game scores were 30-26, 29-31, 30-20, 30-24, in favor of the Waves. The loss snapped the 49ers’ six-match win streak.
Long Beach State dropped to 14-8, 8-7 MPSF, while Pepperdine improved to 17-2, 15-1 MPSF. The win also gave the Waves the regular season series sweep over LBSU.
Robert Tarr led The Beach with a team-high 15 kills. Tarr also added seven digs as well. Scott Touzinsky and Jeff Wootton both netted 12 kills each. Touzinsky also chipped in with a team-high eight digs. David Lee rounded out the top 49er scoring with 11 kills and a .733 attack percentage (11-0-15). Lee is now just one kill shy of reaching No. 600 for his career. As a team, the 49ers only mustered a .258 hitting percentage (58-24-132), and were out-blocked, 15.0-5.0.
Pepperdine was led by a balanced attack from Fred Winters (match-high 22 kills) and Sean Rooney (20 kills). Andy Hein added 11 kills. The Waves hit for a .374 clip (68 kills), and registered 42 digs, eight more than LBSU.

Blocking 26-9 in Pepp's favor. That's one heck of a block party Pepperdine did on LBSU. I was thinking the blocking on both sides would be closer in numbers than that considering the size both teams has.

Much sorrow in the land of the Beach! Plus I now have the added burden of leading sweetievb astray. How will I live with myself? On the more analytical side....the Beach was just plain flat. Against UCI, Tousinzky was hitting high, cutting, roll shotting against a good block. Tonight he was just hitting straight into the block, other hitters doing the same. Passing game was a little off as well, blocking non-existent. Pepp puts up a great block which should always give our hitters fits but we didn't make any adjustments. We were flat. Rooney continures to impress.

Hey Beachy, I was there wearing my Pepperdine T-Shirt and Malibu blue California/Hawaiian shirt...no T-Leaf skirt yet. It was a good match as expected. Pep really put some great blocks up to discourage LB hitters, but LB put up some good numbers. I was really impressed with Robert Tarr (only a freshman); he was all over the place and will be a great one in the years to come. In fact, I've always said Long Beach will be a contender next few years. No seniors? The 49ers had a little problem with their serving into the net or long. Tyler Hildebrand (another freshman) looked really good and did a fair job at setter. Kijewski came in to have some great hits and even though Touzinsky had some problems getting past the blocks, when he did, he put them down hard. MB Duncan Budinger(another darn freshman) had a number of effective quicksets, but had a little problem blocking 6'11" Andy Hein or stopping Keenan (who can?). MB David Lee was pretty consistent at the net. The match wasn't a blowout and LB did show up during the 2nd game...otherwise they looked a little flat (or intimidated) by the hits of Winters, Rooney and Keenan. I swear, when Winters hits one of his thunderous kills, I'm just glad I'm sitting in the stands out of harm's way. The season isn't over yet, and I feel Long Beach will show well in the tournament...however, I believe 2004 will be their year if they play up to their potential. They're a young team with a lot of raw talent. Good luck, Beach.

hard time stopping keenan?? he hit .190 on the night and has been stuggling greatly as of late. He is blocking extremely well but isnt hitting well at all. If he turns it on with his hitting Pepperdine might be impossible to beat.

How will I live with myself? hahaha. it's okay beachy. long beach is my sentimental favorite ... actually i just wanted pepperdine to lose another! i must say, i like the long beach men's team far better than the women's team (who'd a'thunk it, right? hehe). but seriously, the fans are nicer.

Pepperdine is definitely the class of the MPSF(sorry UH fans)! I look for them to be in the tournament finals, hosting I'm sure. I just hope that Long Beach State is in the other half of the bracket and gets to the finals fo the tournament. That way we both go to the final four, which as you all know is in the Pyramid. I guess I am relying on the old comment on how tough it is to beat someone 3 times in the same year, especially on our floor! Hats off to Pepperdine, great team, and your coaches are a class act. I see Marv at the Pyramid scouting all of our matches and he always speaks to us and is very coordial and personal. He's a class act..... GO BEACH

One of the reason Beach fans are hated so much on this board is that they are so antagonistic!

Even if Long Beach gets to the MPSF finals I dont think they will beat Pepperdine at home. And Hawaii beat you twice. Plus you still have to visit us in Provo. The only road to the final 4 is winning the mpsf championship, and the big 3 have something to say about that. God bless
