I have a nook and have been getting lots of questions from friends deciding between the nook (Barnes and Noble) and kindle (Amazon). If you want to check out e-books at a library, the nook seems the way to go. Barnes and Noble's device is compatible with the Overdrive, who supplies ebooks to many library systems, including the metro libraries of the Minneapolis/St. Paul areas. overdrive.com/resources/drc/compatibleebookdevices.aspxThat might make a difference for those who are Christmas shopping and have the Nook and Kindle about equal. IPad recently took steps to become compatible, though some sites say that it is ready now and some say it the compatibility is coming.

I think I'm waiting for a device like this that uses the Pixel Qi screen instead of the e-ink screen. It looks like it would significant advantages.

I'm apparently going in half on a Kindle for my mom. Her eyes aren't liking small print as much as they used to, and an e-book reader will allow her to read at whatever size she likes.
My sister and I suggested it to her last year but she was reluctant. However, she went on a month-long trip to Ireland this year and saw how some of her other fellow tourists were able to bring along their whole e-book library with them. So now she wants one.
