3rd match, it takes a little time to get the juices flowing. Sometimes bad nights happen. That was ugly, no block, terrible SR, way too many SE early on. Sometimes you lose ugly, I’d like to see a little more leadership on the court.

Too many service errors Stanford! That was a big problem. But Florida just never let up. Good fight by them.

Born out of a hazy, far-distant recollection I decided to research the preconference record of the 2016 SU squad (remember them?). That team's OOC? They went 6-2: with 5-set losses to USD and Purdue(!) - they had one sketchy five-set win over CP; they also had a good 5-setter vs. the Illini. Their end-of season record? 27-7; 6-0 in the postseason NCAA tourney...the end of "The Drought". It is way too early, especially without Baird (who should be returning somewhat soon btw), to be too down-in-the dumps!

Florida is normally good in August, don’t worry, Mary is going to mess it up come December. Kidding.
Seriously, Florida passed exceptionally well. Really impressive performances by Stucky, their libero and Martin.
For Stanford, I know this has been said before, but I’m really pleased we have Blyashov and Harvey for the next 4-5 years. Just so much potential. Hopefully with Ipar Kurt. Thought Harvey looked (and played) a lot like Rachel Williams!
Go Card!

Harvey would be the most obvious #1 target in the 2025 class at MB for Stanford. Top rated and sister already on campus. It doesn't mean that she's already committed to the application process though so they are probably entertaining other options. As bigjohn stated, Suli Davis is also another highly sought after recruit from that Drive Nation roster so Kevin could have been watching Zoe, Suli, or both. Major OHs still uncommitted and potentially tied to Stanford are Kaci, Suli, and maybe Spears. And, any of them making a decision could be a domino for the others. It seems like it would also be a Libero year for Stanford and a lot of top kids at the position are committed. Might have an under the radar kid in their sights. Imagine a class of Harvey (MB), Kaci (OH), Suli (OH), Mullen (Opp)… But yes - Little Harvey is a must for 2025. Hope big sis will help her decide to commit to Stanford

does Sami have the foot speed to hit a C set in transition instead of a slide? I know y’all have commented about ineffectiveness on slides and she of course has pin history

I should’ve clarified, I was imagining more when the quick wouldn’t be available due to dig placement (say like middle of the court 8-12 foot line). on freeballs and perfect passes, absolutely prioritize the quickset

It is way too early, especially without Baird (who should be returning somewhat soon btw), to be too down-in-the dumps! That's an interesting year for comparison. With Ivana Vanjak as OH2, Hayley Hudson (OH1) played the first few matches at way below 100% before quitting volleyball. Michaela Keefe then took her place at OH. Meanwhile, Kelsey Humphreys was one of the setters in our 6-2. Plummer was playing OPP. Things were a mess. It wasn't until the 15th match of the season that Dunning succumbed to the pressure and gave Jenna the reins, moving Plummer to OH. Still a lot of learning and growing pains, but the Card steadily improved the rest of the way, with Inky gradually becoming more and more comfortable on her surgically repaired knee. Not quite the parallel to this season. However, I do agree with you that this early season loss to Florida is nothing to get worked up about. We know what to work on; and Florida is very good.

Hope big sis will help her decide to commit to Stanford She's busy tonight in Lincoln with 90,000 fans! Yeah - If Harvey is smart enough to get into Stanford, she probably is smart enough to realize how fleeting 2-3 years of Cornhusker fame is in the big grand scheme of things. Some would probably choose the fleeting fame, doesn't mean it's the right decision for her future. She could go to any quality volleyball program and it's not going to change her post-college volleyball future.

Nebraska has been a big-time program for about 40 years, and their program is still growing. There is nothing fleeting about the Nebraska volleyball program. Besides, why wouldn't any young woman want to go someplace where they can play in front of sold-out crowds for every match? I watched the Stanford/Florida match, and the stands were half empty. In Nebraska, there are bigger crowds for high school volleyball games. Frankly, if I were a member of the Stanford volleyball program, I would be a little embarrassed by that. As for Harvey's post-college volleyball future, I'm sure you know that there are many, many former Huskers playing professionally all over the world, and pretty soon here in the US too, including 2 new pro teams in Omaha. Oh, and 3 members of the gold medal-winning US Olympic team are former Huskers.
