Well, we could pick her up, but she would have to survive the Admissions gauntlet. She better be waking on water academically at Nebraska, otherwise it's a no go. It is probably worth mentioning that she might be looking to play on both the basketball and volleyball teams wherever she ends up which won't happen at Stanford. somone mentioned that she's in the volleyball portal (rather than waiting until end of basketball season for the basketball portal)... meaning she could be wanting to make the switch to volleyball only. From what Nebraska posters have mentioned she doesn't get much PT for basketball. Normally Admissions can't make a decision until late April for transfers. There have been rumors that Stanford has been debating "exceptions" to the normal transfer process for scholarship athletes on a needs basis. The impetus is mainly for football, but to make the process fair, they probably would have to include other sports.

Maggie Mendelson (Nebraska) is in the portal. Now this is big. I remember before she committed to Nebraska, Stanford apparently was one of the other finalists until it was clear that she won’t be allowed to play both basketball and volleyball at Palo Alto. We definitely need another middle.. I hope Stanford will try to pursue her. In the meantime, Nebraska has lost 2 back up players already to the portal. I mean Kami miner started following her and she followed Kami back. I noticed that also. I agree if Mendelson wants to play WBB, it's a no-go at Stanford. If interested, she has to fill out a transfer application, write an essay, submit grade transcripts, etc and then wait for an Admissions decision which who knows how long that will take. FWIW (not much) in her bio in the Husker WBB roster: She did not make the trip with the Husker basketball team to Greece in early August. She did travel with the volleyball team to Brazil earlier in the summer.

I remember being bummed we didn’t get her the first go around especially because we had a post-injury Campbell and an injured Smith. I’m concerned though that when I’ve watched her play at MB (although limited) she’s struggled to close the block and terminate so I question if as a third year she’s worth it over developing someone like Andrew

My concern for 2024 is Stanford has three MBs with one being non-scholarship. If Francis stays healthy all season then great. But Francis has been injury prone.
Mendelson would be the first undergrad transfer into Stanford WVB ever so the odds are pretty long of it happening.

Stanford has transfers into track , softball, baseball and football All undergrads. It doesn’t take as long as some think.

Mendelson would probably win a starting spot. IMO

Football/WVB is apples/oranges. It's my understanding this portal window closes January 3. That's the last day for players to register for the portal but once registered they can take as long as they want to make a decision.

I'm hoping she becomes a cardinal ... She's already a tree (bad dad joke) ... but she'd add so much range to the team. she's pretty diverse on the three front positions so really just a win of a player .

I remember feeling a bit burned when we were supposed to be in the final race for her and then she chose NE. I gather she hasn’t really stood out there either from the comments? Or at least is several deep in their middle depth chart.
If that’s the case, not sure it’s worth making exceptional efforts to modify the transfer policy for her. I get all worked up during transfer portal discussions too, but the time to look for a game-changing transfer should have been last year, when a stronger fleet of middles could’ve pushed us over the hump. Next year will see a lot of untested players taking central roles, so better to develop our new incoming talent ourselves, in my view.

She played Opposite in Nebraska’s 6-2 in 2022 here and there but was eventually beat out by Krause and Lauenstein. She was a good pin blocker. This year she had her chance early in the season as she split time with Allick but eventually lost out as Bekka’s a much better blocker. Jackson is a phenomenal (generational potentially imo) talent whose offense is just better

I think Stanford has 2 for 2024 on scholarship and one walk-on. Andrew is ranked as a top 10 recruit there no way she's not on scholarship along w Francis

Is there another MB I'm not aware of in 2024 who will be on scholarship? Taylor Yu, a setter, is on scholarship.

No, the other MB is Duncan.
