How does the 18 scholie limit work? Is it really a limit? Only 18 players on a roster? Or only 18 players get scholies, but you can have more than 18 players on the roster?
By my count, there will be 18 players on Stanford's roster in 2026, without adding Kaitlyn Nguyen.
Assuming the proposed House settlement gets approved, it's 18 players on a roster. It's a hard limit. There are no scholarship limits or requirements. I hope Stanford approves 18 scholarships but the ~$22M revenue sharing cap might be more difficult for Stanford than other schools bc we have more sports and athletes than most schools and Stanford's tuition is higher (so, e.g., giving an athlete a full scholarship would "cost" Stanford ~$87k, whereas it might cost a relatively cheap state school $25k).
Regardless of the number of scholarships, the roster limit is 18. They can pay no scholarship, partial scholarship, or full scholarship to each of those player.
If Hickman, Andrews, Udoye, and Roslon are the 4 Hambly said are commited to the process, for 2026, then Nguyen is out.
So the DS's for 2026 are Cawa, Kirsch, Etzler, and Roslon?

If everyone stays 2026 - Andrews, Hickman, Roslon, and Udoye
2025 - Logan Parks, Kaci Demaria, Zaria Queen, Reese Dunkle, Erika Sayer, Spencer Etzler 2024 - Andrew, Cawa, Duncan, Yu, Kurt
2023 - Blyashov, Harvey, Kirsch
You're right, that would be 18. My guess is that some of the non-key players would leave but we'll have to see. First, the House settlement needs to be approved and implemented. It has preliminary approval but the next settlement hearing is in April and it's possible (likely?) that some parties will appeal. There's also a lawsuit in Colorado that might affect the settlement. It may take a couple of years before it takes effect. We'll see.

I have a feeling that if Nguyen is considering Stanford, Hambly will find a way to have her on the team. Looks like one of the best libero prospects in that class.

Belardi left just this year to concentrate on beach. It happens, esp when players don't play much.

i wonder if belardi wouldve been the starter once kami graduates... she is short tho (5'9) so was she mainly recruited for beach and walked on for indoor?

IIRC, Formico graduated in December 2020 and because the 2020 season wasn't played till the spring of 2021, that's why she didn't play her senior year.

why are middles running slides more often than hitting 1's or gap sets? i noticed this with sami as well as andi jackson from nebraska are slides harder to defend than attacks coming out of the middle

why are middles running slides more often than hitting 1's or gap sets? i noticed this with sami as well as andi jackson from nebraska are slides harder to defend than attacks coming out of the middle slides spread the blockers in a front row setter scenario. especially on free ball plays, placing your setter dead center of the court and running a quick 4 + a slide with the potential of a setter dump (depending on how aggressive the setter is) will hold the blocks the same as a 3-hitter offense would.
