Where is this Burgess video footage you talk about? I want to see her. You might have to search for Berkeley Prep School or her club team on you tube. There was a video showing her hitting but that was like 2 years ago. It was ok at that time (but she was still young.) Recently she also led the US youth team in scoring in their matches. So she must be good. Can't find Brittany Howard's video, however. Anyone?

if stanford doesn't land her, then they better have a answer to stop her...

somehow Dunning always seems to turn out something good every year I wouldn't be surprised if they shock some teams next year! Here is an interesting fact (one that has probably been mentioned before). Dunning have never won a championship solely with players that he has recruited. Every championship he has won has had players that were recruited and trained by the previous coach.[/b] Forgive me if someone else pointed this out. Dunning was the head coach at Stanford in 2001, 2002, 2003 and when they won the national championship in 2004. Was the previous coach still in the gym?

I don’t bother to respond when someone clearly has no idea about what they are posting.

In watching the NCAA semifinals and finals it was clear to me once again that Stanford has to improve in the area of blocking. A big bomber like Falyn can be thrown off her game if you stuff some of her hits. If you can’t block her it is unlikely anyone will dig out her hits with any consistency. Same thing for the other big hitters.
I agree with the consensus that Stanford needs better passing and tougher serving.
So the goal for 2012 is Burgess, Howard, and a top tier setter? I didn’t look at any of the videos yet of Burgess. I am taking beachbomb’s word that a 6’0” hitter can be successful at a top DI level.

I knew that blocking was our weak point and once Stephanie Browne went down, I knew we were in trouble. Jessica Walker did an amazing job in her place and she is definitely an offensive threat. But what Stanford needed was a blocker and Walker was no where near the blocker that Browne was. Unfortunately, that's just the way the ball rolls. And really, what's the difference between a 6-0 hitter and a 6-1 hitter? I don't think that one-inch makes that much of a difference. If Jordan Burgess has the hops and is a smart hitter, I'll take that out of my OH2 any day of the week.

I wish Stanford Recruitment of 2012 will be like Texas 2011. All of UT's top recruits for 2011 (Bell, Hutson, Eckerman,) were starters or have been part of the Junior National Team. Stanford could do the same.... Reload from a strong class of 2012 and some of the familiar names rumored to be interested with Stanford (and v.v) were starters of the Junior National Team like Burgess, Howard and Bugg.

Every championship he has won has had players that were recruited and trained by the previous coach. But with a little luck, Dunning might have won Championships in 2006 and 2007. Both years they were in the finals, one in Nebraska's back yard (3-1 loss), and the other a 3-2 loss to PSU where the out-pointed the winner. The 2008 team was pretty loaded also, but PSU was Uber-loaded. Might have, could have, should have, but he didn't. Dunning is way overrated.

This "overrated guy" sent his team the the National Championship 3 years in a row. Each of those teams would have swept this years final four teams. Yeah Dunning is overrated.

I didn’t look at any of the videos yet of Burgess. I am taking beachbomb’s word that a 6’0” hitter can be successful at a top DI level. Yes, blocking was quite the issue this year for Stanford. An interesting stat tells it all. Spelman played (and started most) 109 out of 109 sets this year for the Card. She had 2 solo blocks for the year. She is 6'6". Carpenter for PSU at 5'6" had 14 solo blocks this year. Dunning could have put anyone on the team at right front and they would have had more than two solo blocks. This is a real issue going forward. I hate to call a player out but this is ridiculous. Not many coaches would have let her continue to play with that kind of production from that position. Russ Rose had a great quote, " I don't mind short blockers, I just don't like poor blockers". USC sent every ball to the outside when Spelman was right front. It was a good strategy and was ultimately the demise of Stanford's season. Falyn had her best match of the year because of this. It was a real issue all year and something needs to be done about it if Stanford expects to contend next year. I'm not sure what the answer is but a 6' 6" oppo should be a shut down blocker. Coast, USC sent every ball to the outside because that was where Falyn and Jupiter were. Most of their kills were cross court, not line. But Spelman knows she has to improve in blocking and there is no one harder on Spelman than herself. She doesn't need a team parent that "hates to call her out" call her out. With as many times as your kid has been ripped on here one would think you would get that.
