Jordan Burgess to Stanford! ;D It's just a formality now. Saw your post @ Scout.com. Good news for Stanford if its indeed true! Top 5 of 2012?  A fun tidbit: Back in Sept. 2009, Jordan Burgess's Berkeley Prep high school from Florida traveled to California to play in Archbishop Mitty's tournament. In the semifinals, Berkeley Prep lost 1-3 to Dos Pueblos (featuring the Wopat twins who were seniors at the time). In that match, Burgess (as a sophomore) had 15 kills and 16 digs. Meanwhile, Sam Wopat had 20 kills, 7 digs, and Carly Wopat had 17 kills, 7 digs. FWIW, when I pointed out that Nnamani wasn't his recruit, I was in no way saying that Dunning is overrated. The proof is in the pudding.

Yes, blocking was quite the issue this year for Stanford. An interesting stat tells it all. Spelman played (and started most) 109 out of 109 sets this year for the Card. She had 2 solo blocks for the year. She is 6'6". Carpenter for PSU at 5'6" had 14 solo blocks this year. Dunning could have put anyone on the team at right front and they would have had more than two solo blocks. This is a real issue going forward. I hate to call a player out but this is ridiculous. Not many coaches would have let her continue to play with that kind of production from that position. Russ Rose had a great quote, " I don't mind short blockers, I just don't like poor blockers". USC sent every ball to the outside when Spelman was right front. It was a good strategy and was ultimately the demise of Stanford's season. Falyn had her best match of the year because of this. It was a real issue all year and something needs to be done about it if Stanford expects to contend next year. I'm not sure what the answer is but a 6' 6" oppo should be a shut down blocker. Coast, USC sent every ball to the outside because that was where Falyn and Jupiter were. Most of their kills were cross court, not line. But Spelman knows she has to improve in blocking and there is no one harder on Spelman than herself. She doesn't need a team parent that "hates to call her out" call her out. With as many times as your kid has been ripped on here one would think you would get that. You now have my full attention! interesting..... |

um is this seriously true about Burgess going to Stanford? if so i'll be doing my happy dance for along time... she is the barboza of florida prep volleyball... does anyone have a link...

I could say who I am and it wouldn't mean a thing to anybody on this board. Just being a Stanford volleyball fan makes you an important person to other Stanford fans on this board. Turning the subject back to Stanford’s future, when do club tournaments start for the 2011/2012 prospects? Sometime in January? Is anyone going to watch Burgess in a club tournament? |

No place else to gossip about volleyball. I would be surprised that a big time volleyball name woould take the time to slog through all the slop on these sites. Speaking of which, maybe it's time to open a thread on a subject been meaning to breach for awhile...... |
