We are going to have offense coming out of our ears this year. No matter who is on the floor, there will always be plenty of great options on the bench.
What we must have, to make it all work, is good passing and ball control. I believe our best chance at another NT is with McClure in the lineup. It will be interesting to see what Hambly decides.

IMO, as I've stated many pages back, is that Kevin will flex depending upon the situation. He might change starting lineups depending upon the matchups and he may do a lot of mixing and matching in game depending upon the score. This strategy will get the newcomers ready for 2020 and beyond. It will also allow Stanford to rest key individuals during the season and keep legs and arms fresh for the NCAA tournament. Of course, he'll have planning sessions with the team and certain individuals before the season kicks off about how he will make use of all the talent during 2019. If you look at last season there was extra talent at MB and Kevin wasn't hesitant to use it. Also, Keefe would occasionally substitute in for McClure, but that was pretty much it.

Because she was probably given the opportunity to do so in practice. It speaks volumes that she was in the passing rotation for a team with weak passing. Which is why MClure is still needed in all 6 rotations for her passing. If Kipp goes front row for McClure, there will be two rotations where the passers will be Plummer, Kipp, Hentz and Fitzmorris. That is a scary proposition because only Hentz is a proven steady passer. We don’t need Kipp’s offense to where our passing suffers. I disagree. I think Kipp will end up front row for Mcclure in most of the matches this season. I enjoy Mcclure a lot, but she just left a lot to be desired in big games with her hitting efficiency. So you are willing to gamble that a passing rotation of Hentz, Plummer, Kipp and Fitzmorris will hold up for two rotations?

I agree, I would keep McClure in there all the way around simply for her passing. Yea her hitting percentage wasn’t the best but Campbell can crush along with Plummer. McClure can contribute too! She did get the championship winning point last year. That’s gotta say something. Honestly redshirt everyone except Selina (back-up setter) and McKenna (back-up middle) from this freshman class! Then Kipp can have 4 years on the right and can play all 6 rotations from the start.

If what you mean is that at times Kipp will play against lesser opponents to rest a starter, then I agree. If what you mean is that at times Kipp will sub in to shake things up when we are running bad, then I agree. If what you mean is that Kipp will at times be in the "starting lineup" in the big games, then I think it is unlikely. FWIW, I think Kipp has a better shot at replacing Fitz in the starting lineup than McClure. Kipp's position is a non-passing opposite which is what Fitz does.

Yes, that is one potential scenario, but there are others like McClure can't block (say) Stone's slide attacks, so Kevin subs Kipp into the front row. Or Stanford is crushing an opponent with a big lead, so why not throw Kipp in to see if she can pass the rock. He might sub Kipp for Plummer too just to cut down on Plummer's jumps. Or sub in Kipp for Fitz if she needs a rest or is struggling a bit.

This is just a very exciting season for the Cardinal - as I think we can all agree, as we seem to be very into what the lineups could look like. I wasn't following college volleyball for a really long time and just started to a bit in the last 2-3 years, so I'm not sure if there was ever a team(s) that seemed as stacked as this Stanford team in the past 15 years or so, except for I assume Penn State. This 2019 team is losing one starting MB, that's it. I have not really watched much of Gates, but I'm sure slotting her in and keeping everyone where they were in 2018, would certainly lead to another Final Four appearance, at least. Whether McClure plays back row or all 6 rotations, I really don't think it's going to matter. If I were Hambly, I would be very okay/content with having a little less offence from my OH2, to keep the reception lineups the same as the previous championship season. Offence wins games, defence wins championships, isn't that the old saying? Assuming all of these incoming freshman, and future freshman stay healthy, and continue to improve, he will have himself a boat load of potentially very successful future seasons.

I see you are employing the British offence and defence. Tickety-boo.

Watching the USA Junior Team get annihilated by Japan and now by Poland makes me think a proven passer like McClure will keep her starting spot despite the presence of very talented attackers. No disrespect to Kipp, who is arguably the better player offense-wise, we need a 6-rotation super passer for us to run the offense.

Hambly is clearly no dummy and will do what is best in practice, and if it doesn’t hold up in game play he will make changes. If kipps offense outweighs McClure serve receive for those rotations that she will most likely play, if it doesn’t than she most likely will not. McClures offense got a lot better, whos to say kipps passing can’t get better? Vanjak has to pass and they managed it fine. I trust that he will only choose what makes the team better. It’s a tough position to be put in, but it’s pretty much a win win
