I honestly think if you’re wanting to put the best players on the floor together, your best option might be: OH - Plummer/McClure MB - Fitz/Gates Opp- Kipp (DS Formico) S: Gray L: Hentz But I can totally see Kipp being front row for McClure and Gates filling in for Alade if Plummer’s passing is better and they’re wanting more offensive power. I like this, but how much do you really change from a team that just won a natty. The good thing is that Stanford has plenty of options if things go awry True! That’s a good point! Had Gates not transferred to Stanford, replace Gates with Campbell and this is exactly what I would have wanted for this season. I'm a bit confused by your comment though - maybe I'm interpreting it incorrectly, but what does Plummer's passing have to do with Kipp, McClure, Gates and Alade? @disc808 yes, Stanford has multiple options. Hard to really go wrong with any of the starting lineup combinations imo. I meant they wouldn’t need McClure’s passing for all 6 rotations and could put Kipp in there for the 3 front rotations if Plummer had bettered her passing even more.

Longhorn20 (just tagging you instead of all the quotes lol) I see what you're saying now, sorry lol. For hypothetical arguments sake; in rotation 1 Plummer doesn't really even need to be in reception, both her and Fitz could each setup around the attack line/their respective side line and Hentz/McClure could take the bulk of the court. Rotation 2 definitely could be a bit iffy(Kipp/Hentz/Plummer), and rotation 3 she will have Formico back there along with Hentz.

I’m excited for fitz. She barely has played opp and was a second team all American and essential to the team. She could come out in 2019 season as the top opp in the country with over a year at opp instead of like 6 months

Glad Miner and Francis are still uncommitted. Both players are top 10 for 2021.

I wonder if she tries to go pro as an OH or Opp. Being able to play both will certainly help.

Watched the US U-20 team get killed by Japan. Our team was significantly bigger but ball control was awful. It doesn't matter how tall your team is if they can't pass. This team desperately needed a McClure type player who can pass nails from six positions and is a decent hitter.
Kipp is very tall and athletic. Give her the right set and she can crush the ball. Also looked pretty good on the block although it is harder to tell.
On a team with poor passing she didn't pass a single one of her six rotations. That should tell you something.

To be fair, how do you know she couldn't have done any better if she wasn't given any opportunity to do so? Based on what you & others have said about the match, the passing was bad in general so I doubt she would have made it any worse than it already was.

Which is why I would like her to play OH for one year and then take over the right side position for the next three after the 2016 class graduates

Because she was probably given the opportunity to do so in practice. It speaks volumes that she was in the passing rotation for a team with weak passing. Which is why MClure is still needed in all 6 rotations for her passing. If Kipp goes front row for McClure, there will be two rotations where the passers will be Plummer, Kipp, Hentz and Fitzmorris. That is a scary proposition because only Hentz is a proven steady passer. We don’t need Kipp’s offense to where our passing suffers.

I think Kipp will end up front row for Mcclure in most of the matches this season. I enjoy Mcclure a lot, but she just left a lot to be desired in big games with her hitting efficiency.

How Hambly and the coaching staff will use Kipp is such an interesting question for me. All the arguments for/against having her play front row for McClure have been laid out here already, and I have no idea what the right answer is, but I just wanted to add that I think there's real risk for the season if he gets it wrong. Stanford is the favorite to repeat, but how much of a favorite? Would anyone take them against the field? Small differences in passing/defense vs. hitting/blocking, esp against that early season schedule, could honestly make or break whether they host a regional at the end of the year...
