I agree with that. It's what gave USC back-to-back championships in 2002/2003. They had an excellent recruiter, Jerritt Elliott, filling in the gaps until Mick got done with USA. Everybody knew what was going to happen, and it made the recruiting that much easier. As you certain that is the way it went down? I'm not sure Jerritt was Mick's choice. I thought it was Lisa Love's solution to filling the gap until Mick was available. Oops; what I was referring to was mainly the idea of doing everything above-board so potential recruits know who'll they'll be playing for when they finally get to college, rather than the school promoting some assistant and not telling anyone it's temporary.

It definitely worked out for USC. The question is did Mick's decision to announce he was going to USC in the middle of the quadrennial have a negative impact on the women's national team? It would be interesting to hear from people in the program at the time.

Was Toshi named Haley's replacement right away, if so, that might have alleviated some concern. And they certainly played lights out at the Olympics until the medal round.

I'm just glad Columbia Heights somehow got worked into this thread. Thanks, Honore!!!!!!! How far the mighty have fallen. I think we can draw an obvious conclusion from the length of time this is all taking: Joel Maturi is locked in his bathroom. I'm calling 911. Please... Dont

There are reasons for information being held close to the vest by the athletic department. Primarily, Maturi was not happy in the football search when a member of the group leaked the information about Brady Hoke.
Funny. If they named a coach who people didn't feel was acceptable, the feeling would be that Maturi rushed into the decision. By taking it slow, people feel he doesn't have a clue. He can't win.
FWIW, Mike has confidence in Joel and says he understands volleyball better than most ADs.
The person I feel for is Scott. He has been told he is still a candidate but the longer this takes the more opportunities he may pass up.

OKAY, I am for formally starting a "No Patrick to Minnesota" movement as we speak. What is scary is he has a pretty good resume that might make him attractive. You do not need a poser to replace a legend. Silent Consent???

Speaking of non sequiturs, Lisa Axel.
Shelmadine Cacho was the player I was trying to remember. And Charnette Fair was another JC transfer. Anna Reines may have been a scholarship player, too, now that I think about it.

I also think Maturi has a great grasp of what is needed for the volleyball team. When I see him at the matches it seems as though he is a lover of the sport and this team. He seems to be a passionate fan and I don't just think it's because he's the AD and he has to be. I trust him to get us a great coach.
I'm not so concerned about what may happen to Scott as I am rumblings about some of the girls transferring. I think some of the girls would consider transferring more IF Scott were given the position. That's why I'd like to get a head coach named asap because that may alleviate some of the anxiousness some of the players may have about possibly having Scott as a HC. I'm not saying he's a bad guy or that he'd be the reason Tabi would consider transferring but it could be the reason we've heard those rumors. Scott is not Mike for a reason. Mike needed someone to be the bad guy so I think that's how he's viewed. He was definitely the bad cop to Mike's good cop.
McNeil is enrolled and has started classes for the new semester I'd assume. I'd like to know how her transition is going and how team workouts are going with no HC and what Scott's role is at this point. Gotta be a little weird. Apparently Laura isn't sticking around. Is she still around? Is Nao doing everything? I suppose some of these questions can be answered at the banquet in a few weeks so maybe I just need to be patient. It would be amazing to have the head coach named there. Hmmm, maybe a bit too dramatic but when isn't that a bit of fun? :-)

Not sure about team workouts but I've seen her practicing with her former club mates. I asked her if she was "back on the team", she just laughed and said she was just staying in shape. Last time I think was early last week, so it may have just been a holiday break kind of thing.

I assume she enrolled, but doubt that she has started classes. The spring semester classes don't start until the day after the MLK holiday.

It would be amazing to have the head coach named there. Hmmm, maybe a bit too dramatic but when isn't that a bit of fun? :-) I know a couple of players have had issues with Scott's style but they have worked thru them. And, I agree that he is seen as the "bad cop" to Mike's good cop. Interesting, too, that Mike has stated that he has enforced more "penalties" than Scott has during drills but nothing is said about that. Delivery style, I guess. And, Mike has worked with Scott on his approach. And I think he has changed over the five years he's been here. But, he is an intense person and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. And, if a player transfers because they can't handle the constructive criticism, maybe it's for the best. Because at crunch time I would want players who can handle the pressure and are ready to step up instead of shrinking back in the face of the ultimate criticism - a blocked shot, an attack hit long or in the net, etc. I know that any coach (well, almost any) is only working to make their players better and not looking to simply criticize for criticism's sake. Laura is out of college coaching at this time and is working with a local club on the east side of the Cities. Scott is still working and is headed off to Phoenix next weekend to recruit. He understands that the situation is difficult for recruiting. But, that is why you promote the school, I guess. I agree, though, that the longer the process plays out the more anxious the players become.

Article about Joel Maturi in the paper today and ZERO mention of the volleyball search. Not Joel's fault, of course, and not totally unexpected. But still disappointing. Women's BB is mentioned, of course.

Promote the school in Arizona?
Where do all those snow birds come from ..? Nobody in their right mind would commit before a new head coach is named.
All schools promote education..
what's next ?
Location,weather..night life..ease of transportation .. Cost?
or a winning coach ? a great fan base and TV coverage.
the ability to play ..and against great competition almost every night ..that could lead to bigger and better things.
We need A coach like before the end of the week .
