DII coaches have had success (Ed Allen was a three year DII coach before getting the Tulsa job and he turned that into a Top 20 program in 5 years) at the DI level and would appear to be getting more attention from DI administrators. There is another DII head coach under consideration for teh Tulsa job now and a highly successful DII coach was in the running at Alabama as well. I think Brady is a solid candidate for the Minnesota job. I am still not convinced he wants the job. I know others have said he has referred to it as his dream job, but that does not mean the timing is right for him to go after it at this time. How could the "timing" be any better for Brady? Perhaps he should wait for the next time it Minnesota opens say 15 or 20 years poissibly

As we approach the 50 page mark and with the possibility of an announcement coming by the end of this month (yes, I'm aware that's next week) Won't happen. Very, very early next month, though....

I'm sorry but 4 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in DII translates to 4 national championships to me. In other words, I don't find it nearly as impressive as you do. Call me a DI snob. i don't know much about what is going on or who half of these people are but... there's a coach that coached football for a smaller school D1 Youngstown State won a few national titles, went on to a big 10 school Ohio State, and is doing quite well. I think he's even won a national title and competed for a couple more. His name is Jim Tressle.. have you heard of him? A WINNER IS A WINNER. Just sayin'. My thoughts on the jump from DI to DII not being an automatic success (as several others have stated or alluded to) is that they are very different animals...and a lot of the differences are away from training (staff management, more NCAA tape to trudge through, more university & department requirements, etc.) Just as a very good DI AC does not equal a good DI HC, there are different requirements and skill sets required. I few problems with ohbackintheday's extrapolation. FCS & FBS football are much more similar than DI & DII volleyball. 'Tressel' (check your spelling), also spent a lot of time at FBS schools (at least 10 years I believe) prior to going to Youngstown, and had experience with the systems. I'm not saying that he would do badly, or even that he would not do great things at Minnesota...just that it's not a guarantee

Oh and we're now at 50 pages and I'm still sticking to my earlier point on page 47 that we closely examine what USC did when they wanted Mick Haley, but he was committed to the WNT. I'm just sayin'...

So basically, Brady gets a 1 year contract renewable with bonuses and that gives HM one more year (or 2 depending) to rethink and finish his work with WNT....makes sense

Unless he can stay on as an assistant.

The hold up is the interim head coach. An offer has been made to someone who is deciding. The only question remains is, if the person offered the interim job says no, what does Hugh do? Does he leave US team now, or move on to another interim candidate.

It is the experience, & this is his dream job... who knows, it could potentially turn out to be for even longer than 2 years... so why give up an opportunity for an unknown in the future... No one knows what will happen tomorrow...

I know others have said he has referred to it as his dream job, but that does not mean the timing is right for him to go after it at this time. I am with karellen on that. There are plenty of coaches that had success at the D2 level that moved up to the D1 level and were still very successful at the D1 level. Jim Moore who was at NMU and moved to Oregon and made it a top 25 program, Mark Rosen who was at NMU and has made Michigan a top 35 program, Geoff Carlson who didn't even when a naitonal championship at Concordia St. Paul but turned the program around and moved to Ohio Unversity made it a top 25 program then made jump to OSU and made it to sweet 16, Matt and Jeff who were at UNA won a national championship then moved to MTSU and made it to the sweet 16 one year including a sweep of Hawaii. We all want to discount a coach because they don't have D1 coaching experience as if that is what makes or breaks a coach, but in reality where do all these coaches come from. Few coaches are luckily enough to have been at the D1 their whole coaching career. At the high level D1 schools it isn't about the "coaching", it is about the managing of high level talent, managing a big staff, and strategy.

I think the point people are missing is that the interim coach needs to have a connection to Hugh. To my knowledge, Brady doesn't have this. I don't think he's the candidate Keystonekid is referring to in his post.
