Radio said today that Brandon Davies' girlfriend is none other than ASU volleyball player, Danica Mendivil.

Apparently her identity has been confirmed by a member of her family. There was a rumor that she was pregnant, but that part is false.

In this day and age, there are a number of web sites that have stories and stories on her and how they came to be together. This is deep in the National Enquirer level.

Don't know where to begin. That Sportscenter interview with Michael Smith, he was a great volleyball player in high school too, played on the same team as Troy Tanner, who now coaches his daughter's club team.
Now Brandon Davies, shame that the school can't keep things on the down low, the usual "unspecified team rule violations" would've sufficed.
Davies could go play anywhere else he wants and make it to a Final Four before BYU does. And a black guy at BYU? The last time I was there the only African American I saw was at the Wendy's across the street from campus (and no, he wasn't behind the counter).

In actuality, BYU's honor code is not as strict as some other schools. When I was applying to colleges my mom had me check out a certain school. After visiting and hearing about their rules and regulations as well as how strictly they are enforced, I realized I would have been kicked out after a week (it would be quicker but they give you a warning first)...and I considered myself a pretty good kid. bob jones university?

It was sort of "The Perfect Storm" for this story to get so much attention. Team ranked #3 in in the country, possible #1 seed in the tourney, possible POY in Jimmer Fredette, etc. If BYU was in last place in the conference, would this story have been a national story? I don't know. Athlete suspended for having sex - not a story you see every day. I'm sort of enjoying the Ohio State comparisions . I would agree BYU is not the most ethnically diverse campus, but this guy grew up in Provo. Stinks his girlfriend's name is now "out there". Just a sad story for all involved.

so now they are reporting, while he was dating Danica Mendivil he actually got another girl pregnant from Utah Valley St.
I think the story now is that he came forward and admitted things when they found out she was pregnant.

For those that have never been to BYU it is an interesting place. I was there for the Men's Final Four a few years back and there are no apologies for their "way". I just feel that if the team was 17-10 this would not have gotten as much attention. I am also sure that many people violate the honor code every semester.

The pregnant non-GF story started on FratHouseSports.com...so you have to take it with a grain of salt.

I just feel that if the team was 17-10 this would not have gotten as much attention. I am also sure that many people violate the honor code every semester. As I stated above, the record of the team has a lot to do with the national attention this story has been given. Also, the time of year (March Madness). But can you imagine the crap BYU would have gotten if he would have been suspended the day or the week or the month after the completion of the basketball season? I also doubt a member of the school's swim team would have received this type of attention. bbk - The Honor Code office deals with these issues weekly, if not daily. Only the most serious infractions are taken to the Honor Code Office - sex, drugs/alcohol, criminal behavior. It's not like you are hauled before them for wearing a bikini at your apartment complex. I have no proof, but I would guess the vast majority of serious infractions are self reported. Except the criminal ones - they usually find out about those reading about an arrest the next day. I know there are students who have sex, drink, and cheat in classes that graduate from BYU. Doesn't mean the Code should be changed because "everyone is doing it", because the vast majority aren't.

It seems like everyone involved did the right thing, given the situation. The fact that I think the situation is ridiculous and that I personally would never, ever have voluntarily signed that honor code does not change the fact that this student did. It's worth noting the woman involved (who happens to be a VB player) did not sign this honor code, and I see no reason to assign any fault to her at all. The Seattle Times had an interview from a Washington MBB player who went to high school with Mendivil and is friends with Davies. He seems to have been mistaken in that he says she goes to "Arizona" but it is actually Arizona State. seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskymensbasketballblog/2014404321_cj_wilcox_expre.html

No, but from what I've heard from news stories BJU is also a very strict school.
