Yup, any set win vs Fenerbahce is good. Turkish league uses the 3 pt system so Fenerbahce still takes the maximum 3 points and leads the league in ranking. Fenerbahce coach Ze Roberto said after the match, that they played badly in the first two sets but they played great in the last two. He also added that if they pass well, they are an entirely different team -- I would have to agree. Solution: Pull libero out of reception. Have Sokolova, Kim and Logan pass. At least in CL matches, the liberos have been TERRIBLE.

Anyone have a acceptable explanation why Tom isn't playing full time? She is the best passer on that team and most solid all around player? If anyone were to sit, wouldn't it be Kim or is she too valuable offensivly?

I've wondered the same things as well. There has to be a good reason. Roberto isn't stupid.... I'm sure he isn't one to play favorites. Is he restricted by the number of turkish players needed on the court? Maybe because she joined the team later than her teammates? It sure seems like she would have worked her way into the line-up. I've only seen a couple Champions league matches, but I've been pretty underwhelmed by Liubov's play. Also, for someone of her ability and athleticism, she should have a much stronger jump serve. For as long as she has been hitting the jump top-spin, it doesn't appear to have any more heat than it did 10 years ago. Tom is hitting the ball much hard and with much more accuracy than she did 10 years ago.

Many of the Russian women serve this way. Always have.

If Roberto knows Tom doesn't get perturbed about sitting he can start the other two, who know if they're not doing well out they come. If all 3 have enough confidence and they won't get depressed it guarantees full effort by everyone. And I bet there's lots of confidence in those 3.

To me, the lineup Fenerbahce needs is Kim + Logan or Liubov. (Turkish League has 2 foreigner limit) Kim gives them a different look while Logan and Liubov are more interchangeable.

It was great to see Logan Tom out on the court for Fenerbahce. Naturally she will get all the attention and deservedly so but Sonja Newcombe has been having a great season in Turkey. She is on a horrible team though. It would be great to see her get a chance with a good team with a quality supporting cast. National team maybe in her future too???

National team maybe in her future too??? Newcombe just needs to keep doing what she's doing-- making some noise and upping her stock and chance of getting with a good European team next season. After the Olympics there is almost always player turnover. Who knows what spots can open up. In Italian League news, Carli Lloyd has just set her (#1 ranked) Busto Arsizio team to a big win vs Villa Cortese (Lindsey Berg, Sarah Pavan, Aurea Cruz, Makare Wilson)... and my Italian friends say that they are fast becoming fans of Carli. ;D Unfortunate news for Italy's Spes Conegliano. The club has announced that they are shutting down due to financial issues. If Kristin Richards wants to sign with a new team, she will be free to do so.

I have to admit to being somewhat ignorant regarding most of the players on Carli's team. Is her team that good? Out of 11 matches, they've not lost one! Seven of them have been sweeps.
Is her team so good that just about any decent setter would find success? Or, do you think Carli is having a break out moment?

I'm sure Foluke has the cred to get picked up elsewhere if need be, and for some reason I have a feeling she wouldn't be too disappointed to leave the brutal cold.

I heard the Polish club Sopot (A Glass and Hodge's team )also has some financial problems. The weakening of zloty (Polish currency) has created financial difficulties for a few polish clubs whose contract with imports are in a foreign currency. Another club facing difficulties is Organika Budowlani Lodz. The fact that they are playing CEV Champions League makes things more financially heavy. Participation in that tournament could go upwards of six figures! I'm sure Foluke has the cred to get picked up elsewhere if need be, and for some reason I have a feeling she wouldn't be too disappointed to leave the brutal cold. Certainly. And _she_ might still be getting paid, not sure if she is or isn't. I hope she is getting paid. I had read that the club has not paid salaries since September. Krasnodar plays in the CEV Cup. European competitions are expensive..
