As it stands this season has been all over the place. Between BYU lossing to CBU and St. Francis clawing their way back into the Top 15. How would you the members of VT rate some of the teams so far this year?
How has you viewed the season over the past few months?
And Finally...
Who do you think will be the teams that come out of it in May and will be there for the National Championship, the last four teams standing. Will a MIVA or EIVA team get the At-Large bid or will it be a MPSF team?
(Let's here VT Members and please keep it civil...) ;D

Well... EIVA, George Mason and Rutgers dont have it this year to take down Penn State. So theres your EIVA team. MIVA is slightly different because in the beginning of the year, all everyone could talk about was IPFW, but with OSU dropping them in four games in Fort Wayne, who knows. IPFW did beat Loyola twice, but both matches were very early in the season and IP has seemed to strugle as of late, dropping a game to Mercyhurst, and losing to OSU on there home court. OSU plays IPFW in columbus this weekend. Look for Loyola to get better as the season reaches its end and maybe cause an upset in the tourny like IPFW has been doing the past 2 years. The MPSF is a tight race right now, For some reason I really like BYU...... I dont know why! I think its between UCI, BYU and Pepp. 2 of those three teams i expect to be in Columbus Ohio in early may.

Until a MIVA or EIVA team beats PEP, BYU, UC Irvine or UCSB the At-Large bid will probably go to an MPSF team. I dont' doubt that there is excellent play going on in those conferences right now. For example, Penn St. will be playing UCI in a few weeks. It would be a great opportunity for PSU to make a case for a non-MPSF At-Large bid.

Pepperdine and UCI will be representing the MPSF in the FF (Pepp conf champs, UCI conf runner-up/at-large). PSU from the EIVA (over St. Francis and Honore), IPFW in the MIVA (over Loyola). Pepperdine wins it all against UCI.

The at-large WILL go to an MPSF team, no doubt about that, it'll take more than one win from another conferences team to change that.

Let's go with Pepp (conf champ) and UCSB b/c what the hell, it would be a crazy change to see those guys up there. The ho-hum choices for the other half will have to be Penn State (EIVA) and IPFW (MIVA).

It sounds like there's still optimism that IPFW will rebound from it's somewhat sluggish start out the MIVA gate. They might get stronger. The Ohio St. game this week will be very key. Does Ohio St. get a big upper hand if they complete the sweep? Or will IPFW rebound at Columbus and make this a two team race? How much more interesting it could have been if Loyola had taken one of the two against IPFW. I may say two team race but I won't count Loyola out just yet. They still have two against Ohio St. late in the season.

The at large bid will most likely go to an MPSF team unless Loyola goes out there and sweeps teams when out in California. But the body of work may not be sufficient against a UCSB, Pepperdine, UCI or BYU. PSU will without a doubt when the EIVA bid. Rutgers is horrendous and they are fully funded. Mason is not quite there this season and St. Francis does not look to be quite good enough on the wings. Juniata is benching players and Princeton is well Princeton.Stroudsberg lost to NYU early on so count them out. PSU in Columbus and you can book it.

PSU will not make a case about an at large if they win vs UCI at all... PSU won't have the chance to get the at large bid as they will breeze by the EIVA. The match between UCI and PSU will have no effect on the at large bid.

If the At-Large DOESN'T go to an MPSF team there is something seriously wrong with the selection committee.
I can only speak from an MPSF standpoint because of my locale and keep in mind, this is a summary of what I've seen so far.
With that, PEP has come up even starting the season w/ the temporary loss of Winder. Carroll & Hulse have lit it up for them.
BYU, physically tall, but mental midgets. So much talent, but not enough fortitude.
UCI, a lot of talent once again, but playing below expectations, taking teams too easily and in search of a floor leader.
UCSB, pleasant surprise behind the cannon of Patak. He goes down or is off, the team goes down or is off. The Patak "Backpack"-- come on team, jump on in.
UCLA-- the record speaks for itself. Not a good year by UCLA standards, but then again look what happened last year.
Pacific, riding the emotional rollercoaster but capable of a lot.
Beach-- who? Serious re-building year.
CSUN, can play with the best of them but can't finish.
USC, hovering near the bottom with glimpses of good play, but not enough to be .500.
Hawaii, taking a beating this year (Coach Wilton included).
Stanford & UCSD, at least if you're at the bottom you can always look up.

Agreed no chance for a NonMPSF team will get the at large. Because no one team from the MIVA or EIVA is playing BYU, Pepp, UCI, and UCLA. Both Loyola and PSU got trounced by BYU. Couple that with BYU's recent "struggles" and it eliminates any at large bid talk for those teams. IPFW's wins over Stanford and possibly Long Beach won't help them either. And OSU has yet to play any significant matches outside the midwest.
I have not seen all of the teams in the country play this year, but I know BYU has some scary talent. So I imagine that Pepp and Irvine must be pretty good teams as well. I look for two of those three to be in Columbus in May.

Interesting reading.....my question is only historic when I ask if the above teams can "keep" a title. I know that at least BYU has been challenged on recruiting.

The MIVA is a three horse race with Ball State on the outside about 2 lengths back. PSU is in like Flint and have already booked their rooms in Columbus. Which 2 of the MPSF schools make it to Cloumbus remains to be seen but it seems that there are only 4 teams for those spots (PEP, UCI, BYU and UCSB).
