Along the lines of nycitytechcoach's post about the mid-season report card, IF we V-talkers were to pick Mid-Season All-Americans who would they be (copy/paste the positions below to your response)? I'm curious as to what players are stepping up this season so far. Please include name & school:
V-Talk All-American 1st Team OH - OH - MH - MH - OPP - S - L -
V-Talk All-American 2nd Team OH - OH - MH - MH - OPP - S - L -
Honorable Mention(s):

1st Team: H1 - Patak H2 - Jablonsky M1 - Smith M2 - Harrell OPP - Carroll S - Winder L - Asuka Not so much a true AA list, but this would be my killer six. I'd play Carroll at OPP, hide H1 Patak on SR in all six rotations, shift my L around and have Carroll pass a bunch (L-R-R-M-L, rotations 1-6). Carroll's passing duties wouldn't be that drastically different than how I've seen him utilized at PEPP. Patak would play RB on defense (b/c he's used to that...and then he could still have D...can you say crazy zone overload?!) the whole time he was in the back row, except for row 4 (when Carroll was in the BR w/ him). This team would absolutely SMOKE

V-Talk All-American 1st Team OH - Jablonsky, UCI OH - Carroll, PEP MH - Hulse, PEP MH - Smith, UCI OPP - Patak, UCSB S - Winder, PEP L - Asuka, UCI
V-Talk All-American 2nd Team OH - Cala, BYU OH - Macias, IPFW MH - Holmes, BYU MH - Harrell, UCI OPP - Webber, UCI S - Thornton, UCI L - Brockman, UCSB
That's what I've got to go with considering what I have seen this year. Obviously I have a West-coast tilt in my teams, but hey, there's still another half of a season to complete. All in good fun.

V-Talk All-American 2nd Team OH - Seppanen, PAC OH - Macias, IPFW MH - Harrell, UCI MH - Holmes, BYU OPP - Carroll, PEP S - Thornton, UCI L - Ker, UCLA
Honorable Mention(s): OH - Figueroa, USC; Lotman, LBSU; Vance, CSUN MH - Dante, HAW; Lisher, CSUN OPP - Klosterman, UCLA; Webber, UCI; Rhodes, CSUN; Anderson, Loyola-Chicago S - Beckwith, HAW; Kowalski, UCSB, Killian, USC L - So it looks like more of an all-MPSF team, but I have yet to see any MIVA or EIVA teams this year.
BTW, has anyone seen Cal Baptist's Shamsu Awudu (OPP) play? The guy is amazing! I just saw this video clip of him serving the ball, the other team's passer overpass it, and Awudu jumping from behind the 10 foot line to put the overpass down.

Its funny to see who the midwest/east coast volleytalkers are because they put people in like William Price from George Mason and Eric Honsberger from Rutgers as All American candidates. I understand you have to give players some consideration for All American but as far as I'm concerned C.J. Macias is about the only standout outside of the MPSF that should be in that list. And the other people listing Patak/Carrol/Macias at OH that doesn't really make any sense. Yea they are great players and should all be considered All Americans but none of them can pass. The OH spots are reserved for players like Cala and Jablonsky. Heres Mine
1st Team AA OH - Yosleyder Cala OH - Jayson Jablonsky OPP - Evan Patak MH - David Smith MH - Aaron Harrel S - John Winder L - Brent Asuka
2nd Team AA OH - Ivan Perez OH - Paul Lotman OPP - Paul Carrol MH - Russel Holmes MH - Tom Hulse S - Brian Thorton L - Ben Brockman
CJ macias has to fit into one of those 2 AA teams I just don't have a place to put him. Matt Webber from UCI as well
Honorable Mention Juan Figueroa OH, Brian Beckwith S, Dio Dante MH, Pekka Seppanan.

Thank you "reject" for showing a little more objectivity. If only two schools plus Patek are represented on an all-american team the sport is in serious trouble. Take a trip to the east coast sometime. A few of the kids are pretty darn good and I am from the west coast!

Price was the go to hitter on the junior national team, which included west coast and hawaii players.

VBaller, have you seen Carroll play? He can pass. He's in Pepperdine's passing rotations. They're consensus #1, and on top of the MPSF (toughest conference, toughest competition...the best, you know). Read my post if you want to know how Patak would work at OH.
BTW, I've seen Cala last year and this year and besides the vertical leap, I'm still not impressed. He's not clutch. He's not money. He has pretty numbers, but his mindless errors I'm sure drive even the most ardent BYU fan mad. He won't be leading anyone to the promised land.
