As a LOng Beach State fan I hate to say it, but Alan's team is DONE! They looked like they were gonna get over the hump when they beat UCI, but alas they fell off the horse! There is something missing here with this team, and it may just be coaching! Sorry guys, but you are gonna be WATCHING the final four in your "own house" AGAIN, and you have no one to blame but your little collective selves!

Sorry guys, but you are gonna be WATCHING the final four in your "own house" AGAIN, and you have no one to blame but your little collective selves! With fans like you who needs enemies. I went to the Pyramid last night to see Stanford and was more than impressed with the fact that LBS was heavily playing true FRESHMEN, as many as 3 on the court at one time. (Budinger, Hagstrom, Tarr). Many programs redshirt their freshmen and then don't play them until they're sophomores or juniors, but here's LBS getting their freshman in and being competitive. The match was close. It's not like they got blown out. I really don't think they embarrassed themselves at all. I'm predicting next year to be LBS's year, with 3 seasoned sophomores mixed in with seniors Wooten and Touzinski, with an experienced setter... the formula is set for a good season. If they aren't in the top 2-3 next year then I'd say LBS fans have reason to be grumpy.

Well, my2sense, I guess we are all entitled to our opinions. I have spoken to many of our loyalest fans who are beginning to wonder "what's going on here". Our teams haven't gotten better as the season has gone on lately, and that is a troubling thing for those who really "know" volleyball! I agree totally with you and others who have referenced "next year" as the Beach's year. Well, all I can say is that if they can't put it together next year, they never will! They have excellent talent, some very good recruit classes and a good mixture of talent both young and older! They are not like the BYU's, Hawaii's and others who import foreignerswho are older and much more experienced. However, I won't allow that as a valid excuse. Alan needs to start showing that his teams can win the "big matches", and they haven't done that in the past 3 years!

No argument. I think those "who know," also need to recognize that UH, Pepperdine, BYU, etc. didn't have a new coach 3 years ago, had established programs, were able to convince recruits in high school 4 and 5 years ago that their programs were stable, when LBS was in a transition. It takes a while for a new coach to get a reputation as a good mentor and coach, someone you can count on for a 4-5 year career. Your good freshmen this year are proof that your coach has recruited very well. I'd give him some slack.

OMG, Im sick and tired of hearing comments about recruiting foreign players, and them being older. Do you think ANY team would not have recruited Costas if they knew how great a player he would turn out to be? Besides USCB. Its not BYU and UHs fault that these players are THAT good.
If they sucked do you think anybody would be making comments?

I don't think it's fair to knock Long Beach this badly. Long Beach fans should not be embarrassed to have been beaten by Stanford in 4. Stanford has been underachieving lately and may be coming into it's peak. Four of the five seniors on the team are starters, all of them were on the Fab 50 list when they entered college. One of them is Curt Toppel who seems to be recovered from his injuries. He is a three-time All American, has played a few years on the Junior National Team, played on the National Team last summer, and led the US to the first ever gold medal in the World University games two years ago. Long Beach just doesn't have this kind of power this year. I am sort of hoping that the Cardinal are coming in from behind and I am rooting for them.
GO CARDINAL
