Only a "couple" of good hitters? Oh ya, that really feels like a put down. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Are you going to be there or are you going to see Quincy too? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Only a "couple" of good hitters? Haha, very frosty...sounds like Klosterman just called out the UCI guys. I love it. Jablonsky & Smith...then there's Webber (very good), Harrell (very good) and then Reinholm (sneaky frosh good). Wish I could go tonight...has the makings of a VERY epic battle! We can't overlook the coaching battle going on also-- mentor vs. mentee, teacher vs. student. Both teams have great momentum going on right now and will be going blow-for-blow tonight.

Very true & astute of you to point out, Rob...nice. My prediction: UCLA in 5. Kevin Ker 65 assists, 3 kills, 3 aces, 5 total blocks.

Irvine Sweeps, don't remember scores exactly, but great game by the team and especially Smith and Asuka. Smith is still doing really well, great hitting and getting them blocks. Asuka tonight really hustled to every ball, was doing the things he did last year, flying cross court, digging up numerous balls, great job. Looks like hes giving a good showing every game to keep that starting libero job, and making a good case for that matter. But overall, Irvine is looking much better than a couple of weeks ago, really executing there game plan.
Side note, noticed Klosterman getting the majority of the sets all night, resembled a UC Patak-like showing. Irvine recognized and had some double and triple blocks on him. Would I be too quick to call UCLA, UC Klosterman? ha

Irvine, Calif. – A school record 3,612 fans watched second-ranked UC Irvine beat No. 5 UCLA, 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-21) at the Bren Events Center Friday.
UCI extends its winning streak to eight matches and improves to 20-3 overall and 14-3 in the MPSF. UCLA goes to 12-9 on the year and 9-8 in league play. Tonight’s attendance breaks the old school mark of 3,235 set in 2003 against Hawaii.
Senior opposite Matt Webber led the Anteaters with 16 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Middle blocker David Smith continued his hot-hitting with eight kills and a .636 hitting percentage (8-1-11). Senior Jayson Jablonsky added seven kills, seven digs and five blocks, while junior Aaron Harrell had a match-high seven blocks to go with four kills. Senior setter Brian Thornton totaled 33 set assists and six digs. Libero Brent Asuka tallied nine digs in the win. The Anteaters won the battle at the net, with a 10.5 to 5.0 advantage.
The Bruins were led by Steve Klosterman with a match-high 21 kills. Brett Perrine had seven kills and Jamie Diefenbach added six kills in the loss. Libero Tony Ker led all players with 12 digs. Setter Kevin Ker tallied 38 set assists and five digs on the night.
UCI jumped out to a 9-4 lead in game one on a kill by David Smith then opened up a 24-18 advantage on a triple block by Jayson Jablonsky, Aaron Harrell and Matt Webber. The Anteaters would go on to the 30-26 victory in the first set.
UCI led 27-21 in game two before UCLA scored the next five points to narrow the UCI lead to 27-26. Following a UCI timeout, Cole Reinholm stopped the streak with a kill (28-26). The teams traded points until UCLA had one of its 24 service errors to end the game 30-28 in favor of the Anteaters.
UC Irvine never trailed in game three as the Bruins got as close as 13-11 before the Anteaters reeled off three consecutive to put them ahead 16-11. UCLA would get no closer than four the rest of the way with UC Irvine taking the game 30-21 and the match 3-0.

Klosterman played well tonight considering that his supporting cast didn't. UCLA seemed off. Irvine was well rounded tonight.
Play/rally of the night was in game 1 when the 2 liberos (Asuka-UCI and Ker-UCLA must of dug 3 balls on each side to keep the play alive for their squads. They were all over the place. UCLA ended up winning the rally on a kill by George.

Oh yeah, it was good to meet some of you vtalkers out there. I know that some of you didn't get the result you wanted but hey, the crowd of over 3,200 had to bring a smile.
Hopefully we can cross paths at other matches!

The official count is 3,612 Rob. Irvine was on. UCLA was off, and maybe Irvine had something to do with that. But our serving was way off and that let Irvine set up and take advantage. Irvine's a well-oiled machine. The Bruins had 3 true freshmen and one RS freshmen on the floor for most of the 3rd game. Paul George was working with a bad back and just wasn't himself. I think the match at Pauley will be much different. Maybe we can get 3,000+ that night. 'Twas a great night for the sport with that nice crowd.

Not like you MAC to make excuses. Sounds like UCI made a statement. Of course, they will have to keep from loosing their voice in April ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Great crowd for a So Cal Game!!!!!! The official count is 3,612 Rob. UCI had an easy day in the office as Matt Webber and the boys trashed UC kLostermAn 3-0. It was a boring, one-sided, unexciting match. Not worth $16 (general admission + parking).
Adding injury to insult, the announcer was very annoying. He tries too hard...
Matt Webber was awesome and simply one level above everybody else. Dude, his wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am style is a beauty!!! Unstoppable. Unblockable. Unchallengable. God bless him.

What, "Irvine was on" isn't enough love for the eaters for you! That's more than I usually give an opponent! Speraw had them prepped and they did what they had to do.

too bad....expected a better match-up
Mac will always say to wait untill it matters, but UCLA doesn't seem to be putting it together when it matters. This was a statement match against UCI and they had no answers.
