I believe a Jim Stone, Andy Banakowski and Cecile Reynaud assisting the committee would be a huge benefit. Could add Mike Hebert to the mix although that would be two former Big Ten coaches. And, that would make way too much sense. Have people who know and can focus on volleyball throughout the year make determinations.

vbnerd and Over, good points, Hawaii's seed is probably too high, but the way it works out actually makes for a fair regional based on PSU as the 800 pound gorilla in the room and Stanford's RPI being way too low.

St. Mary should not make it. They are much better teams out there on the bubble...

xusc; I beg to differ, compared to the bottom of the at-large possibilites, St. Mary's has an excellent argument with wins over San Diego, Pepperdine, BYU, Notre Dame and Duke. That's a really nice resume.
By the way, here is the NCAA committee:
Beatrice Crane-Banford, Marshall University Jana Doggett, Utah State University Jennifer Gilbert, Miami University (Ohio) Keith Gill, American University Mary Hill, South Carolina State University Colleen Lim, West Coast Conference Jim Marchiony, University of Kansas Nona Richardson, University of California, Davis Diane Turnham, Middle Tennessee State University, chair Barbara Walker, Wake Forest University

OK, OK, take a team with fewer losses but didn't play anybody, either. A similarly interesting team with many losses that is a few RPI short is UCSB, that will move up if they can beat TCU tonight or tomorrow.

Would Tennessee and PSU really get sent to Hawaii?

The early-round geographical limitations do not apply at the Regional level

Regarding Western Michigan, not only do the lack any big wins, they also have lost their last 2 matches to inferior competition. They lost to Central Michigan and at Miami OH (about 144 in RPI i think). That is the worst loss when compared to peer RPI teams like Ball State, Cal, UNC, Duke, Marquette, and Missouri. Their RPI is very high but the resume just isn't there. The only things they have going for them outside of conference are wins at home against Marqutte (also on the bubble) and Milwaukee and on the road against Morehead St. They could be one of the higher RPI teams left out of the tourney.

No doubt about it; WMU is the definition of bubble, but 3 wins in the top 50 put them in a much better situation than most bubble teams. Please ignore the losses, those don't matter as much as top 50 wins

volleytology, unless my math is wrong, you only have 63 teams listed. Plus now Wisconsin in losing in the 3rd set to lose the match and make them ineligible. On a side note, if the three at large MAC teams are going to get in due to rpi, then you are using rpi as the primary tool. If that is the case, then you have to use rpi down the line. So not sure your rationale for skipping teams that are 40-45 and going to teams in 50's. The MAC teams combined that you have in as at large teams have one top 50 win between the three of them. So either use the rpi or don't, but according to four MAC teams getting in, sounds like rpi is your tool.

If UCSB wins out, then they might sneak in, but probably need LB to beat CM & New Mexico as well.
Just can't see 4 MAC teams in, but.....

Good catch vb55, missed the A Sun winner Lipscomb. NIU has 7 top 50 wins, WMU has 3 and BSU has 3, so not sure where you are getting your info. I actually only have Missouri St (1-7 in top 50) and Kansas getting passed over, so not sure what you mean by not going along with the RPI. I didn't have Wisconsin in, so my at-large picks are intact. I'm not a huge fan of Ball State and WMU either, and if they were going to be replaced, it would most likely be Notre Dame and Clemson at 54 and 55 respectively, which personally I would have no problem with.

UCSB is a longshot at 56, plus only 1 top 50 win
