As promised, here is the latest run of the RKPI as of all the regular season matches completed. However, I believe I read somewhere that the committee uses the rankings at the beginning of this week rather than rerun them like I have. At any rate, here they are:

I think it's Northern Illinois or Stanford, and I'd expect NI to get seeded. Bureaucrats are making the decisions.

All I can say is, you can't be serious! Three Pac 12 teams in the top 28?! None higher than 8th?
Will Rich give me the odds he suggests against any Pac 12 teams making it out of the Regionals, much less to the Quarters?

Does anyone use a computer ranking system ala MaxPreps at the High School level? They seem to have an uncannily accurate and yet unbiased program that is remarkably accurate by the end of the season in picking winners during the playoffs.

You seem to be confused. This isn't Rich's prediction at how far teams will advance in the tournament, or even what he thinks are the best teams.

This is a calculation, based on equations fine-tuned by Rich and his staff, to predict what the official RPI will be. And to that purpose, it does a very good job.

Even the RPI itself isn't designed to predict exactly how far a team will advance, or what the absolute "best" teams are. It is a tool to rate winning teams, weighted against a rough "strength of schedule" that is determined by the winning percentage of opponents.

Thank you for explaining that jayj79. I explained to a poster on VT a couple of weeks ago, but it seemed like majority of the posters on VT does not really know how the RPI works! It doesn't predict how good you are as a team...people!!!

I still think Stanford gets a seed.... I don't think Northern Illinois will.

...speaking of Northern Illinois, didn't they lose their lame conference championship to Central Michigan (I recall being upset that they will take a bid from a more deserving team)....so why is it that Northern Illinois moved UP in the rpi this week (from rpi 17 starting the week to the predicted #14 rkpi now)?

I am slightly surprised that there wasn't much downward movement by Cincinnati. Realizing that they are an AQ, but the home loss to Ohio University Friday night (snapping what one article called "the nation's longest home-court winning streak") would have had some influence. At least in my mind.
