Good thing 135 people were there to see it. Patak is slumping off on his Aces.

I noticed that Klineman had a majority of the assists in the match. Did Kowalski get benched by Coach Preston to go with a bigger lineup?
Penn St. can play and NO ONE can take them lightly. They have a very talented and experienced team and are capable of knocking off the top teams.

If Preston is creating a setter controversy between Kowalski and Klineman, UCSB can kiss their season goodbye. Their only chance is with Kowalski IMHO. The attendance figures for both the BYU games and the Penn State game were both pathetic. In fairness to the students, though, since UCSB is on the quarter system it is time to put the beer bottles away, crack a book or two, and start studying as finals are just around the corner.

Preston has been yanking Kowalski, with no rhyme or reason, his whole career. It's pretty sad. It's almost as if he's never really wanted BK...he found every excuse to play Dane Jensen, even while it was Kowalski who was running the show and putting up big wins. As a poster said earlier, BK must've stuck around for academics...b/c no former JNT starter should have had to put up w/ this crap. IMO Preston is off his rocker.

The crowd was pathetic, but you are right the students are starting finals and the student paper is down for the break so not many knew about the game. Plus they never never play on Monday.
The match was quite good overall to watch. PSU was awsome for the 1st two games. This guy Holt was quite impressive with a tremendous serve. Anderson was phenominal the first 2 games, hitting over triple blocks with ease. A great server.
It seemed that PSU let down a little after game 2 and the Gouchos finally quite experimenting and had a set lineup that was more productive. They still haven't returned to the form they had in the beginning of the year. Granted the competition is much better now, but they have really gone backwards in their play( is that coaching). Patak is in a slump of some sort. I think he is is tired, his knees hurt and his arm doesn't have that pop he had earlier in the season. 50% of his kills last night were soft rollshots. This is his the longest stretch he has gone in a season without injury or probation.
Against BYU he never got started until the second night third game when all was lost. As for their setting, it is a mess. I sometimes think Bart tries too hard and his sets aren't spread around enough. It is either go to Patak or forgets him and go elswhere all the time. He must be easy to read or something because UCSB gets a lot of triple blocks up on their outsides.
The coaching between the two teams was a huge difference. The PSU offense was really good, with actual plays, like x's and pipes. It was great to see. UCSB is always the same old story, high direct sets to the outsides. The middles carried them last night, who are really good and should be used more than they have been.
Who knows, maybe the break will be good for them. As for PSU, they are a legit contender, as long as no one gets hurt. Very dependent on 3 main guys.
