Nick Meyer, a 6-8 outside hitter for then-No. 15 Ball State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Meyer earns the award after two strong matches last week, including an upset of then-No. 9 Pacific, en route to the 2007 Don Shondell/Active Ankle Challenge title. In the Cardinals’ first match, against George Mason, Meyer had 25 kills on 43 attempts for a .442 hitting percentage in the four-game win. He also chipped in eight digs and five total blocks. He followed that up with another 20-plus kill performance, this time putting away 26 kills in 58 attempts for a .328 hitting percentage in Ball State’s five-game upset of Pacific. He also added two aces, 10 digs and three total blocks in the victory. For the week, Meyer averaged 5.67 kills, 2.0 digs, 0.89 total blocks and 6.44 points per game, hitting at an impressive .376 clip. Meyer’s award marks the tenth time, and the first time in over three years, that a Ball State men’s volleyball player has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. The last Cardinal to earn the honor was Keith Schunzel on January 26, 2004. Ball State is coached by Joel Walton.
