Figueroa named MPSF Player of the Week
Junior outside hitter Juan Figueroa wins the award for the third time in his career.
After leading the Trojans to a three-game sweep against Long Beach State in which he recorded a match-high 18 kills (hitting .467) and seven blocks, junior outside hitter Juan Figueroa was named Co-Player of the Week for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Figueroa led the Trojans to their fourth win in a row, upsetting the No. 10 49ers.
The win also moved USC into the eighth and final playoff spot in the MPSF.
"I feel good and happy for me and my team," Figueroa said. "The award is not just mine. It's for me, my teammates and the coaching staff because without them I wouldn't have been able to play well."
Figueroa leads the Trojans in kills (373), kill average (4.78 per game), aces (21) and ace average (0.27 per game), digs (147) and dig average (1.88 per game).
"Actually, me and my coaches thought that I didn't have a good game," Figueroa said. "I wasn't feeling good, and this shocked me when I heard I got player of the week."
It is the Puerto Rico native's third time receiving the award after he was recognized twice during the 2006 season.
"I just played my game and we fought until the last moment, and we came up with an important win for the team," Figueroa said.
