March 28, 2007 The fourth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team travels locally this week for a key MPSF match. Tonight, the Bruins travel to top-ranked Pepperdine for a 7pm start. The top-ranked Waves have won 16 straight matches, including a 3-2 decision against the Bruins on Jan. 24 at Pauley Pavilion. Pepperdine's victory that evening began its streak, which currently includes a road sweep against No. 2 UC Irvine (Jan. 27), series sweeps of No. 3 BYU and No. 14 Hawaii, and a five-game, 0-2 comeback win at No. 8 Long Beach State last week. Pepperdine sophomore Paul Carroll leads the conference in kill average (5.83) and ranks second in both points (6.96) and aces (0.60). Junior setter Jonathan Winder ranks second in assists (13.18) and seventh in blocking (1.27) per game. Finally, senior Tom Hulse leads the league in blocking (1.98). The Bruins won consecutive matches against Ball State on Mar. 14 and 16. In their last nine matches, the Bruins are 7-2 with a team hitting percentage of .362. Senior Steve Klosterman is hitting .431 during that period and is averaging 6.13 kpg.
