Juniata Colege finally loses to a Division III school as Springfield beats the Eagles 3-0 in Huntingdon, PA. First loss to a D III school in almost four years.

What does this mean for DIII rankings / Molten Championship seeding?

Was this for the EIVA DIII Title???
Because if it is than Juniata is still going to be there since they host, but now Carthage gets the top seed and juniata gets the #2 Seed, I believe. Springfield might get the 3 and Steven's Tech gets the 4.
That means
Juniata will play Springfield again and Carthage plays Steven's...should be interesting.

Just looked it up on the Juniata site and Yes Springfield did beat them for the EIVA DIII Title. This makes things interesting.
Either way Juniata will be a above a #3 seed. However, if the powers that be want someone other than Juniata to win it they will place Juniata against Carthage on day one and have Springfield play Steven's, then see where the chips fall.
Like I said before, should be interesting...See you all in Huntington.

Seeding should be very interesting for the MOLTEN committee but more importantly is this a showdown with the new Juniata Coach or is Springfield without Palumbo playing better Volleyball? I think mutiny.

So what should the rankings be for the final 4?

For some reason, Springfield has played much better since Palumbo went down. While Palumbo was healthy Juniata crushed Springfield 3-0, and NYU beat Springfield by huge scores 3-1. After the Palumbo injury, Springfield smashed NYU 3-1, then took Juniata to 5 the next night. Now they win 3-0 at Juniata with all of Juniata's starters playing the entire match!!!! Wow, I cant believe it but Springfield might be the best team coming into the Moltens.

Should be very interesting to see the results of this match. I think this is the first time in a few years where you could make a strong case for any of the 4 teams to have a strong weekend and take the title. Hopefully someone records it and someone else is willing to host it on their site *cough* middlehitter.com *cough*

Hopefully someone records it and someone else is willing to host it on their site *cough* middlehitter.com *cough* Middle Hitter would love to host the video of the match. Last years I had AVCA's and the two schools approval to broadcast the Molten championship. However, USAV is also a sponsor (i.e. they contribute money to the tournament) and had rights to the video. They exercised their right but it was a little too late. The host school had already performed their creative editing and did not retain the raw footage. The person at USAV had a tough time attempting to get something that met USAV quality standards. The end result did get posted: www.usavolleyball.org/wannaplay/06moltenDIII.aspMaybe this year I can work out a deal where USAV does their highlight film version and then allows me to post the entire match, set-by-set. I would even host the semifinals if the video is shared with me. We will see... Thanks for reminding me. I need to contact USAV now, not some time after the tournament.

Regarding that, what about an amateur video that someone takes? I know that personally, I've recorded 33 of my team's 40 matches. Am I allowed to put those out to the public? If so, perhaps you can e-mail the coaches from the final four teams and see if any of them would be willing to give you their copies. I know when we played Carthage, they had at least 1 camera set up, and I'm pretty sure they actually had 2.

If so, perhaps you can e-mail the coaches from the final four teams and see if any of them would be willing to give you their copies. I know when we played Carthage, they had at least 1 camera set up, and I'm pretty sure they actually had 2. I understand the legal perspective of sharing video. There are a few schools, namely west coast MPSF schools who have agreements with TV outlets regarding ALL of their sports and therefore may be limited to what they can share with other outlets. This is a very small list. There are a few tournaments that have sponsors. If those sponsorship contracts contained clauses regarding video rights, then there is an approval process required. The presenter must get the approval of the sponsor who has those media rights clauses. No clause, no problem. The Molten is sponsored by Molten, AVCA and USAV. They each have a right to approve someone broadcasting the matches. Last year I received the approval of Molten and AVCA to broadcast. As explained earlier, I did not receive approval from USAV because they intended to post the video. I am OK with that, as long as it gets shared! I don't get anything from broadcasting the video other than the satisfaction of sharing it with the volleyball community and hopefully building more interest in the sport. The NCAA does not have rights over media unless it is one of their Championship series. The NCAA men's volleyball championship is the final four and NCAA owns the rights. Other video rights are not property of the NCAA. This can be verified by researching the NCAA website. CSTV does own the rights to the MPSF, EIVA and MIVA championship matches. I have taped the semifinal matches of the MIVA since it was in Chicago the past couple of years and shared it. The semifinal matches were not part of the CSTV package hence no rights issues. I always ask the host school for approval to post the video since they are the default rights holders. Loyola has always shared the their rights to the video I have taken. I have the same agreement with Lewis if I could ever find time to get to one of their home matches. Most schools are willing to share but it is a matter of how. They can post it or someone like Middle Hitter can post it. CSTV offers a free service to share video if you have someone who can work with them on the "HOW" to share. It requires some technical know-how and the smaller programs just do not have the staff to figure it out while focusing on their main purpose, their volleyball team. My goal is to share video of all levels of mens volleyball. I understand that the biggest opportunity for growth is in the DIII arena. However, most HS age players have never seen a DIII match and do not understand the level of competition. Teens being teens might make fun of someone who isn't talking to a DI/DII school. Fortunately, most 18 year olds have started to not pay as much attention to peer pressure. This is developed with the whole decision making process of where do they want to attend college. Hopefully, any candidate will make sure the school fits their personal and academic needs, no matter what level of play. Players who go to a school just for volleyball tend to drop out very quickly. There are a lot of great schools that fit many volleyball players needs that are looking for great volleyball players. I am hoping to provide exposure of these schools to the high school age players the schools need to improve their programs. Sorry for the long winded response but it is one my my main missions in regards to my work with Middle Hitter. Video is a great conduit to the volleyball players that represent the growth of the sport in the long run.

I am going to the Molten Championships and am planning on taking video of both of Carthage's matches in the tournament. I would be happy to share any video I take if we can work it out.
