And only one tournament, or am I missing one from South America? Who doesn't have a ticket yet that SHOULD get one? Brazil, Japan, Serbia, Russia, Poland, Cuba........ ?

Algeria is going, not Tunisia (Tunisia's men are going). South American tournament starts on Tuesday with Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Peru, Uruguay & Venezuela fighting for one ticket. Asia and last chance qualifier together start May 19th. Japan, Korea, Thailand, Chinese Taipei are in. Most likely Russia, Serbia, Puerto Rico & Peru/Brazil will be the other four, but we're talking about the FIVB so I wouldn't bet on anyone until the field is official! 4 tickets available, at least 1 to an Asian team.

Algeria qualified from the African Qualification Tournament. I see Brazil easily qualifying out the South American Tournament. Poland didn't not qualify for the last Qualification Tournament (bummer!), and Cuba pulled out of the Qualification Tournament giving Puerto Rico, per the next best ranked NORCECA team after the Dominican Republic and Cuba, the vacant spot in the Tournament. Japan will come out on top IMO from the Asian Qualifier, but Thailand and Korea will give them trouble. If Korea doesn't qualify through Asia I see them as a favorite for one of the three bids to the Olympics. As for the other two bids to the tournament, I think both Russia and Serbia shouldn't have any trouble qualifying.

How is Cuba? Have not heard anything about them and their chances? I know Brazil and Japan will be in for sure.

But I read somewhere that NORCECA will probably pay travel costs for Cuba so they are still alive.

Their federation is putting all its money behind the mens effort to qualify and medal. That is terrible, they have so much talent. It's no wonder a lot of them defect. Once a dominating force in womens volleyball, now just a mere shadow of what it used to be. Thanks Murina!

But I read somewhere that NORCECA will probably pay travel costs for Cuba so they are still alive. News to me! According to German fed, FIVB confirmed that NORCECA will pay Cuba's travel costs. If Cuba had not gone to Japan, Germany would have taken their spot as highest team in world ranking that is not qualified yet (and as for now will not qualify for sure).

Russia will be without Kosheleva and Sokolova in the World Olympic Qualification Tournament. Why Sokolova? According to someone who claims to have talked to her, Sokolova is tired. It may be the reason she did not play well in the finals match.

According to someone who claims to have talked to her, Sokolova is tired. It may be the reason she did not play well in the finals match. Sokolova may be tired, but she needs to suck it up and help her team. You're months away from the Olympics with a huge shot at going. Can you imagine some of the players from Germany & Poland who wish they had that opportunity right now???
