They looked like they had about 10 better things to do than play that match... Big fan of those two, but definitely not a fan of the way they just represented our country and sport.

I am not sure I have much faith in Gibbs and Rosenthal to get much further. This situation is extremely disappointing.

The announcers were commenting before the game on how Dagers said they had never felt that jittery or nervous before a game. They just weren't confident and it showed.

I'm not hugely surprised Phil and Todd went out early, just not this early. Although, come to think of it, I think Phil/Todd have lost to Nicolai/Lupo every time they've played this year - so perhaps it wasn't so flukey.
Todd and Phil's body language always looks horrible, can't really tell anything from that. But they both looked a little...broken, maybe.
But I'm not taking anything away from Nicolai/Lupo - despite their pedestrian showing in the Olympics up until this match, they are a very dangerous and good team. They took and 2nd in the Beijing Grand Slam (beating Phil/Todd and Emanuel/Alison on the way) and a 3rd in the Gstaad Grand Slam. They're both basically still kids, and struggle with inconsistency, but when they're on, they can beat anybody. Nicolai is a younger clone of Phil - same size, serves harder, blocks a ton of balls (although not the setter that Phil is). Congratulations to them, they took it to Rogey and Phil.
Jake and Rosie have the easiest path to the semifinals of any bracket - men's or women's - now let's hope they take advantage of it.

Hope this fires up Misty and Kerri. I hope so, too. They've looked beatable. I'd hate to see them bow out without a medal (okay, without the gold, but I was trying to be a little bit humble).

I hope Todd and Phil stick around and become Jake and Sean's practice team. That would be a testament to the Olympic spirit and help the US bring home more medals...

A friend and I were discussing the huge success of all the beach and indoor teams in pool play and he noted that none of it will matter if they don't follow through in the knock-out rounds. Unfortunately, now we have a concrete example of that.
Out of all the beach teams, I'm probably the least surprised about these guys going out in a first round shocker. Not sure if I can explain why, but the relative lack of energy/emotion probably comes into play. I didn't think nerves would be a significant factor for the defending champs and long-time vets, though.

Like a lot of people have already said they didn't look pumped up (but when have they?) instead tired and listless.
