I hope Team USA likes tea, because coffee is for closers. What a train wreck that was to watch.
In order to win the group, USA has to sweep Tunisia (easy) and then hope that Brazil drops a set to Germany or Serbia. The first tiebreaker is the number of sets won divided by the number of sets lost. If Brazil sweeps their last two matches, they will be 13-3 (4.3); USA will be 14-4 (3.5) if they sweep Tunisia.

As long as we sweep TUN, then we'll be the top seed. There will be no need for tie breakers.

Techukyn, can't even contemplate spelling that one, was amazing. How did he get through the block time after time?

Nope, we got a point from this, so 3-1 will be fine.

If Tunisia takes us to five we may as well voluntarily kick ourselves out the tournament. I think we'll be fine though, Russia played great, we played terribly, sometimes it happens. We've got a pretty easy road to the semis, I think the only real threats to us right now are Poland and Russia. If Brazil pulls it together they could be trouble, but I doubt it. I'm predicting silver for us. Poland is still playing the best right now, so I think they take gold, but I don't think Russia maintains this level of play. You never know though.

Grankin made this team go today. If he stays in, Russia could start playing the way they did in set 4 and 5. I hope they go back to Butko.

Glad to hear that we can still pull out the 1 seed in our group, but as perspixx said above, what a trainwreck to watch.....

Glad to hear that we can still pull out the 1 seed in our group, but as perspixx said above, what a trainwreck to watch..... I disagree. We played well the first three sets. Russia just woke up and started dominating like we knew they could and probably should. It was a big mental letdown to lose that 3rd set after we should have won it, then Russia just floored the gas. If anything, team USA should feel good knowing that they can play with Russia when/if the time comes again....

I am looking at this loss as a "glass half full"!
Now we know what their best looks like... We have tape and we will adjust when we face them in the finals!
Better to loose now than later!.....

It's not even a case of adjustment. More like 'Just don't play like crap'. The passing was just awful. Easy plays, like that roll shot Stanley dove for and sent under the net. I think there's a few little things they'll see on the tape and adjust to, but it's really a mental thing. I would like to see the left sides recognize that Volkov loves to dive into the crosscourt. Someone go angle!

we got a point and the #1 seed (prob)
and got a taste of Russia on all cylinders. bottom line is if we can pass off their serve and block, we can beat them.

The problem is we knew that the Russians can turn it up or down. These guys get bored beating the run of the mill teams and when they go belly up they go all the way, and when they go crazy, they go crazy. I don't think the Russians turning it on was a surprise, I think the way we handled their onslaught was what was eye opening.

I didn't realize you got a point for losing in five sets. Wow... Europeans really are too nice.
